Leviticus 5

1And if any one sin, in that he heareth the voice of adjuration, he being a witness, whether he hath seen or known, if he do not utter it, then he shall bear his iniquity.

1If someone sins because they are a witness and fail to speak up after hearing a public call to testify about something they have seen or known, they will be held responsible for their sin.

2Or if any one touch any unclean thing, whether it be the carcass of an unclean beast, or the carcass of unclean cattle, or the carcass of unclean creeping things, and it be hidden from him, and he be unclean, then he shall be guilty.

2Or if someone touches anything ceremonially unclean—such as the carcass of an unclean wild animal, unclean livestock, or unclean crawling creature—even if they are unaware of it at the time, they are still unclean and guilty.

3Or if he touch the uncleanness of man, whatsoever his uncleanness be wherewith he is unclean, and it be hid from him; when he knoweth of it, then he shall be guilty.

3Or if someone touches human uncleanness—whatever that uncleanness may be—and they are unaware of it, they will be guilty once they realize what happened.

4Or if any one swear rashly with his lips to do evil, or to do good, whatsoever it be that a man shall utter rashly with an oath, and it be hid from him; when he knoweth of it, then he shall be guilty in one of these things.

4Or if someone makes a careless oath with their lips to do anything, whether bad or good—whatever a person might speak rashly under oath—and they are unaware of it, they will be guilty once they realize it.

5And it shall be, when he shall be guilty in one of these things, that he shall confess that wherein he hath sinned:

5When anyone is guilty in any of these ways, they must confess the specific sin they have committed.

6and he shall bring his trespass-offering unto Jehovah for his sin which he hath sinned, a female from the flock, a lamb or a goat, for a sin-offering; and the priest shall make atonement for him as concerning his sin.

6As a penalty for their sin, they must bring a female lamb or goat from the flock to the LORD as a sin offering; then the priest will make atonement for their sin.

7And if his means suffice not for a lamb, then he shall bring his trespass-offering for that wherein he hath sinned, two turtle-doves, or two young pigeons, unto Jehovah; one for a sin-offering, and the other for a burnt-offering.

7If they cannot afford a lamb, they must bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons to the LORD as a penalty for their sin—one for a sin offering and the other for a burnt offering.

8And he shall bring them unto the priest, who shall offer that which is for the sin-offering first, and wring off its head from its neck, but shall not divide it asunder:

8They must bring them to the priest, who will first offer the one for the sin offering. He will wring its neck without pulling the head all the way off.

9and he shall sprinkle of the blood of the sin-offering upon the side of the altar; and the rest of the blood shall be drained out at the base of the altar: it is a sin-offering.

9He will sprinkle some of the blood from the sin offering against the side of the altar, and the rest of the blood must be drained out at the base of the altar; it is a sin offering.

10And he shall offer the second for a burnt-offering, according to the ordinance; and the priest shall make atonement for him as concerning his sin which he hath sinned, and he shall be forgiven.

10The priest will then offer the second bird as a burnt offering according to the proper rules. In this way, the priest will make atonement for the person's sin, and they will be forgiven.

11But if his means suffice not for two turtle-doves, or two young pigeons, then he shall bring his oblation for that wherein he hath sinned, the tenth part of an ephah of fine flour for a sin-offering: he shall put no oil upon it, neither shall he put any frankincense thereon; for it is a sin-offering.

11But if they cannot afford two turtledoves or two young pigeons, they must bring about two quarts of fine flour as an offering for their sin. They must not put any olive oil or incense on it, because it is a sin offering.

12And he shall bring it to the priest, and the priest shall take his handful of it as the memorial thereof, and burn it on the altar, upon the offerings of Jehovah made by fire: it is a sin-offering.

12They must bring the flour to the priest, who will take a handful of it as a symbolic portion and burn it on the altar on top of the food offerings to the LORD; it is a sin offering.

13And the priest shall make atonement for him as touching his sin that he hath sinned in any of these things, and he shall be forgiven: and the remnant shall be the priest’s, as the meal-offering.

13In this way, the priest will make atonement for the person regarding whichever of these sins they committed, and they will be forgiven. The rest of the flour will belong to the priest, just like a grain offering.

14And Jehovah spake unto Moses, saying,

14The LORD spoke to Moses, saying:

15If any one commit a trespass, and sin unwittingly, in the holy things of Jehovah; then he shall bring his trespass-offering unto Jehovah, a ram without blemish out of the flock, according to thy estimation in silver by shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary, for a trespass-offering:

15If anyone is unfaithful and sins unintentionally regarding any of the LORD’s holy things, they must bring a ram without any defects from the flock as a penalty offering. Its value must be set in silver shekels, based on the weight used in the sanctuary.

16and he shall make restitution for that which he hath done amiss in the holy thing, and shall add the fifth part thereto, and give it unto the priest; and the priest shall make atonement for him with the ram of the trespass-offering, and he shall be forgiven.

16They must make restitution for what they did wrong regarding the holy thing, add a fifth of its value to it, and give it all to the priest. The priest will make atonement for them with the ram of the penalty offering, and they will be forgiven.

17And if any one sin, and do any of the things which Jehovah hath commanded not to be done; though he knew it not, yet is he guilty, and shall bear his iniquity.

17If anyone sins and does anything the LORD has commanded not to be done, even if they were unaware of it, they are still guilty and will be held responsible for their sin.

18And he shall bring a ram without blemish out of the flock, according to thy estimation, for a trespass-offering, unto the priest; and the priest shall make atonement for him concerning the thing wherein he erred unwittingly and knew it not, and he shall be forgiven.

18They must bring a ram without any defects from the flock to the priest, valued at the proper amount, as a penalty offering. The priest will make atonement for them for the mistake they made unintentionally, and they will be forgiven.

19It is a trespass-offering: he is certainly guilty before Jehovah.

19It is a penalty offering; they were definitely guilty of wrongdoing against the LORD.
