1Then the princes of the families of Levi came to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the princes of the kindreds of all the tribes of the children of Israel
1Then the heads of the families of the Levites came to Eleazar the priest and Joshua, the son of Nun, and to the heads of families of the tribes of the children of Israel;
1Then the chief fathers of the Levites drew near to Eleazar the priest, and to Joshua the son of Nun, and to the chief fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel;
2And they spoke to them in Silo in the land of Chanaan, and said: The Lord commanded by the hand of Moses, that cities should be given us to dwell in, and their suburbs to feed our cattle.
2And said to them in Shiloh in the land of Canaan, The Lord gave orders by Moses that we were to have towns for living in, with their grass-lands for our cattle.
2and they spoke to them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying, Jehovah commanded through Moses to give us cities to dwell in, and their suburbs for our cattle.
3And the children of Israel gave out of their possessions according to the commandment of the Lord, cities and their suburbs.
3And the children of Israel out of their heritage gave to the Levites these towns with their grass-lands, by the order of the Lord.
3And the children of Israel gave to the Levites out of their inheritance, according to the word of Jehovah, these cities and their suburbs.
4And the lot came out for the family of Caath of the children of Aaron the priest out of the tribes of Juda, and of Simeon, and of Benjamin, thirteen cities.
4And the heritage came out for the families of the Kohathites: the children of Aaron the priest, who were of the Levites, were given thirteen towns from the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin.
4And the lot came forth for the families of the Kohathites. And the children of Aaron the priest, of the Levites, had by lot out of the tribe of Judah, and out of the tribe of the Simeonites, and out of the tribe of Benjamin, thirteen cities.
5And to the rest of the children of Caath, that is, to thee Levites, who remained, out of the tribes of Ephraim, and of Dan, and the half tribe of Manasses, ten cities.
5The rest of the children of Kohath by their families were given ten towns from the tribes of Ephraim and Dan and the half-tribe of Manasseh.
5And the children of Kohath that remained had by lot out of the families of the tribe of Ephraim, and out of the tribe of Dan, and out of the half tribe of Manasseh, ten cities.
6And the lot came out to children of Gerson, that they should take of the tribes of Issachar and of Aser and of Nephtali, and of the half tribe of Manasses in Basan, thirteen cities.
6The children of Gershon by their families were given thirteen towns from the tribes of Issachar and Asher and Naphtali and the half-tribe of Manasseh which was in Bashan.
6And the children of Gershon had by lot out of the families of the tribe of Issachar, and out of the tribe of Asher, and out of the tribe of Naphtali, and out of the half tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, thirteen cities.
7And to the sons of Merari by their kindreds, of the tribes of Ruben and of Gad and of Zabulon, twelve cities.
7The children of Merari by their families were given twelve towns from the tribes of Reuben and Gad and Zebulun.
7The children of Merari according to their families had by lot out of the tribe of Reuben, and out of the tribe of Gad, and out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve cities.
8And the children of Israel gave to the Levites the cities and their suburbs, as the Lord commanded by the hand of Moses, giving to every one by lot.
8All these towns with their grass-lands the children of Israel gave by the decision of the Lord to the Levites, as the Lord had given orders by Moses.

9Of the tribes of the children of Juda and of Simeon Joshua gave cities: whose names are these,

10To the sons of Aaron, of the families of Caath of the race of Levi (for the first lot came out for them)
10These were for the children of Aaron among the families of the Kohathites, of the children of Levi: for they came first in the distribution.
10and which the children of Aaron, of the families of the Kohathites, of the children of Levi had (for theirs was the first lot);
11The city of Arbe the father of Enac, which is called Hebron, in the mountain of Juda, and the suburbs thereof round about.
11They gave them Kiriath-arba, the town of Arba, the father of Anak, (which is Hebron) in the hill-country of Judah, with its grass-lands.
11and they gave them Kirjath-Arba, [which Arba was] the father of Anak, that is, Hebron, in the mountain of Judah, with its suburbs round about it.
12But the fields and the villages thereof he had given to Caleb the son of Jephone for his possession.

17And out of the tribe of the children of Benjamin, Gabaon, and Gabae,

18And Anathoth and Almon, with, their suburbs: four cities.

19All the cities together of the children of Aaron the priest, were thirteen, with their suburbs,

20And to the rest of the families of the children of Caath of the race of Levi was given this possession.

21Of the tribe of Ephraim, Sichem one of the cities of refuge, with the suburbs thereof in mount Ephraim, and Gazer,
21And they gave them Shechem with its grass-lands in the hill-country of Ephraim, the town where the taker of life might be safe, and Gezer with its grass-lands;

22And Cibsaim, and Beth-horon, with their suburbs, four cities.

23And of he tribe of Dan, Eltheco and Gabathon,

24And Aialon and Gethremmon, with their suburbs, four cities.

27And to the children of Gershon, of the families of the Levites, out of half the tribe of Manasseh, [they gave] the city of refuge for the slayer, Golan in Bashan and its suburbs; and Beeshterah and its suburbs: two cities;
28And of the tribe of Issachar, Cesion, and Dabereth,
28And from the tribe of Issachar, Kishion and Daberath with their grass-lands;
28and out of the tribe of Issachar, Kishion and its suburbs, Dabrath and its suburbs,
29And Jaramoth, and Engannim, with their suburbs, four cities.

32Of the tribe also of Nephtali, Cedes in Galilee, one of the cities of refuge: and Hammoth Dor, and Carthan, with their suburbs, three cities.
32And from the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee with its grass-lands, the town where the taker of life might be safe, and Hammoth-dor and Kartan with their grass-lands, three towns.
32and out of the tribe of Naphtali, the city of refuge for the slayer, Kedesh in Galilee, and its suburbs; and Hammoth-Dor and its suburbs, and Kartan and its suburbs: three cities.
33All the cities of the families of Gerson, were thirteen, with their suburbs.
33All the towns of the Gershonites with their families were thirteen with their grass-lands.
33All the cities of the Gershonites according to their families were thirteen cities and their suburbs.
34And to the children of Merari, Levites of the inferior degree, by their families were given of the tribe of Zabulon, Jecnam and Cartha,
34And to the rest of the Levites, that is, the families of the children of Merari, they gave from the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam and Kartah with their grass-lands;
34And to the families of the children of Merari, that remained of the Levites, [they gave] out of the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam and its suburbs, Kartah and its suburbs,
35And Damna and Naalol, four cities with their suburbs.
35Dimnah and Nahalal with their grass-lands, four towns.

36Of the tribe of Ruben beyond the Jordan over against Jericho, Bosor in the wilderness, one of the cities of refuge, Misor and Jaser and Jethson and Mephaath, four cities with their suburbs.
36And from the tribe of Reuben, Bezer and Jahaz with their grass-lands;
36and out of the tribe of Reuben, Bezer and its suburbs, and Jahzah and its suburbs,
37Of the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Galaad, one of the cities of refuge, and Manaim and Hesebon and Jaser, four cities with their suburbs,
37Kedemoth and Mephaath with their grass-lands, four towns.
37Kedemoth and its suburbs, and Mephaath and its suburbs: four cities;
38All the cities of the children of Merari by their families and kindreds, were twelve.
38And from the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead, the town where the taker of life might be safe, and Mahanaim with their grass-lands;
38and out of the tribe of Gad, the city of refuge for the slayer, Ramoth in Gilead and its suburbs; and Mahanaim and its suburbs,
39So all the cities of the Levites within the possession of the children of Israel were forty-eight,
39Heshbon and Jazer with their grass-lands, four towns.
39Heshbon and its suburbs, Jaazer and its suburbs: four cities in all.
40With their suburbs, each distributed by the families.
40All these towns were given to the children of Merari by their families, that is, the rest of the families of the Levites; and their heritage was twelve towns.
40[These were] all the cities of the children of Merari according to their families, which remained of the families of the Levites, and their lot was twelve cities.
41And the Lord God gave to Israel all the land that he had sworn to give to their fathers: and they possessed it, and dwelt in it.
41All the towns of the Levites, among the heritage of the children of Israel, were forty-eight towns with their grass-lands.
41All the cities of the Levites within the possession of the children of Israel were forty-eight cities and their suburbs.
42And he gave them peace from all nations round about: and none of their enemies durst stand against them, but were brought under their dominion.
42Every one of these towns had grass-lands round it.
42Each one of these cities had its suburbs round about it: thus were all these cities.
43Not so much as one word, which he had promised to perform unto them, was made void, but all came to pass.
43So the Lord gave to Israel all the land which he gave by oath to their fathers; so it became their heritage and their living-place.
43And Jehovah gave to Israel all the land which he swore to give unto their fathers; and they took possession of it, and dwelt in it.

44And the Lord gave them peace on every side, as he had said to their fathers: all those who were against them gave way before them, for the Lord gave them all up into their hands.
44And Jehovah gave them rest round about, according to all that he had sworn unto their fathers; and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them: Jehovah gave all their enemies into their hand.
