1And the lot came out for the children of Joseph from the Jordan at Jericho, at the waters of Jericho on the east, even the wilderness, going up from Jericho through the hill-country to Beth-el;

1The land assigned to the descendants of Joseph began at the Jordan River near Jericho, east of the springs of Jericho, and went up from Jericho through the desert into the hill country of Bethel.

2and it went out from Beth-el to Luz, and passed along unto the border of the Archites to Ataroth;

2From Bethel it went to Luz and continued to the border of the Archites at Ataroth.

3and it went down westward to the border of the Japhletites, unto the border of Beth-horon the nether, even unto Gezer; and the goings out thereof were at the sea.

3Then it went west down to the territory of the Japhletites as far as Lower Beth-horon and on to Gezer, ending at the Mediterranean Sea.

4And the children of Joseph, Manasseh and Ephraim, took their inheritance.

4So the descendants of Joseph, the tribes of Manasseh and Ephraim, received their land.

5And the border of the children of Ephraim according to their families was thus: the border of their inheritance eastward was Ataroth-addar, unto Beth-horon the upper;

5This was the territory given to the families of the tribe of Ephraim: Their border started at Ataroth-addar in the east and went to Upper Beth-horon.

6and the border went out westward at Michmethath on the north; and the border turned about eastward unto Taanath-shiloh, and passed along it on the east of Janoah;

6The border continued to the sea. From Michmethath on the north it turned eastward toward Taanath-shiloh and passed by it on the east to Janoah.

7and it went down from Janoah to Ataroth, and to Naarah, and reached unto Jericho, and went out at the Jordan.

7From Janoah it went down to Ataroth and Naarah, touched Jericho, and ended at the Jordan River.

8From Tappuah the border went along westward to the brook of Kanah; and the goings out thereof were at the sea. This is the inheritance of the tribe of the children of Ephraim according to their families;

8From Tappuah the border went west to the Kanah Ravine and ended at the sea. This is the land given to the families of the tribe of Ephraim as their inheritance.

9together with the cities which were set apart for the children of Ephraim in the midst of the inheritance of the children of Manasseh, all the cities with their villages.

9It also included all the towns and villages set apart for the people of Ephraim within the land given to the tribe of Manasseh.

10And they drove not out the Canaanites that dwelt in Gezer: but the Canaanites dwell in the midst of Ephraim unto this day, and are become servants to do taskwork.

10However, they did not drive out the Canaanites living in Gezer. The Canaanites still live among the people of Ephraim today, but they were forced into hard labor.
