1And Jehovah doth answer Job, and saith: --
1And the Lord answering Job out of the whirlwind, said:
1And Jehovah answered Job and said,
2Is the striver with the Mighty instructed? The reprover of God, let him answer it.
2Gird up thy loins like a man: I will ask thee, and do thou tell me.
2Shall he that will contend with the Almighty instruct [him]? he that reprovethGod, let him answer it.
3And Job answereth Jehovah, and saith: --
3Wilt thou make void my judgment: and condemn me, that thou mayst be justified?
3And Job answered Jehovah and said,
4Lo, I have been vile, What do I return to Thee? My hand I have placed on my mouth.
4And hast thou an arm like God, and canst thou thunder with a voice like him?
4Behold, I am nought: what shall I answer thee? I will lay my hand upon my mouth.
5Once I have spoken, and I answer not, And twice, and I add not.
5Clothe thyself with beauty, and set thyself up on high, and be glorious, and put on goodly garments.
5Once have I spoken, and I will not answer; yea twice, but I will proceed no further.
6And Jehovah answereth Job out of the whirlwind, and saith: --
6Scatter the proud in thy indignation, and behold every arrogant man, and humble him.
6And Jehovah answered Job out of the whirlwind and said,
7Gird, I pray thee, as a man, thy loins, I ask thee, and cause thou Me to know.
7Look on all that are proud, and confound them, and crush the wicked in their place,
7Gird up now thy loins like a man: I will demand of thee, and inform thou me.
8Dost thou also make void My judgment? Dost thou condemn Me, That thou mayest be righteous?
8Hide them in the dust together, and plunge their faces into the pit.
8Wilt thou also annul my judgment? wilt thou condemn me that thou mayest be righteous?
9And an arm like God hast thou? And with a voice like Him dost thou thunder?
9Then I will confess that thy right hand is able to save thee.
9Hast thou an arm likeGod? or canst thou thunder with a voice like him?
10Put on, I pray thee, excellency and loftiness, Yea, honour and beauty put on.
10Behold behemoth whom I made with thee, he eateth grass like an ox.
10Deck thyself now with glory and excellency, and clothe thyself with majesty and splendour.
11Scatter abroad the wrath of thine anger, And see every proud one, and make him low.
11His strength is in his loins, and his force in the navel of his belly.
11Cast abroad the ragings of thine anger, and look on every one that is proud, and abase him:
12See every proud one--humble him, And tread down the wicked in their place.
12He setteth up his tail like a cedar, the sinews of his testicles are wrapped together.
12Look on every one that is proud, bring him low, and tread down the wicked in their place:
13Hide them in the dust together, Their faces bind in secret.
13His bones are like pipes of brass, his gristle like plates of iron.
13Hide them in the dust together; bind their faces in secret.
14And even I--I do praise thee, For thy right hand giveth salvation to thee.
14He is the beginning of the ways of God, who made him, he will apply his sword.
14Then will I also praise thee, because thy right hand saveth thee.
15Lo, I pray thee, Behemoth, that I made with thee: Grass as an ox he eateth.
15To him the mountains bring forth grass: there all the beasts of the field shall play.
15See now the behemoth, which I made with thee: he eateth grass as an ox.
16Lo, I pray thee, his power <FI>is<Fi> in his loins, And his strength in the muscles of his belly.
16He sleepeth under the shadow, in the covert of the reed, and in moist places.
16Behold now, his strength is in his loins, and his force is in the muscles of his belly.
17He doth bend his tail as a cedar, The sinews of his thighs are wrapped together,
17The shades cover his shadow, the willows of the brook shall compass him about.
17He bendeth his tail like a cedar; the sinews of his thighs are woven together.
18His bones <FI>are<Fi> tubes of brass, His bones <FI>are<Fi> as a bar of iron.
18Behold, he will drink up a river, and not wonder: and he trusteth that the Jordan may run into his mouth.
18His bones are tubes of bronze, his members are like bars of iron.
19He <FI>is<Fi> a beginning of the ways of God, His Maker bringeth nigh his sword;
19In his eyes as with a hook he shall take him, and bore through his nostrils with stakes.
19He is the chief ofGod's ways: he that made him gave him his sword.
20For food do mountains bear for him, And all the beasts of the field play there.
20Canst thou draw out the leviathan with a hook, or canst thou tie his tongue with a cord?
20For the mountains bring him forth food, where all the beasts of the field play.
21Under shades he lieth down, In a secret place of reed and mire.
21Canst thou put a ring in his nose, or bore through his jaw with a buckle?
21He lieth under lotus-bushes, in the covert of the reed and fen:
22Cover him do shades, <FI>with<Fi> their shadow, Cover him do willows of the brook.
22Will he make many supplications to thee, or speak soft words to thee?
22Lotus-bushes cover him with their shade; the willows of the brook surround him.
23Lo, a flood oppresseth--he doth not haste, He is confident though Jordan Doth come forth unto his mouth.
23Will he make a covenant with thee, and wilt thou take him to be a servant for ever?
23Lo, the river overfloweth — he startleth not: he is confident though a Jordan break forth against his mouth.
24Before his eyes doth <FI>one<Fi> take him, With snares doth <FI>one<Fi> pierce the nose?
24Shalt thou play with him as with a bird, or tie him up for thy handmaids?
24Shall he be taken in front? will they pierce through [his] nose in the trap?
