1And Jehovah doth answer Job, and saith: --
1And the Lord answering Job out of the whirlwind, said:
2Will he who is protesting give teaching to the Ruler of all? Let him who has arguments to put forward against God give an answer.
2Is the striver with the Mighty instructed? The reprover of God, let him answer it.
2Gird up thy loins like a man: I will ask thee, and do thou tell me.
3And Job said in answer to the Lord,
3And Job answereth Jehovah, and saith: --
3Wilt thou make void my judgment: and condemn me, that thou mayst be justified?
4Truly, I am of no value; what answer may I give to you? I will put my hand on my mouth.
4Lo, I have been vile, What do I return to Thee? My hand I have placed on my mouth.
4And hast thou an arm like God, and canst thou thunder with a voice like him?
5I have said once, and even twice, what was in my mind, but I will not do so again.
5Once I have spoken, and I answer not, And twice, and I add not.
5Clothe thyself with beauty, and set thyself up on high, and be glorious, and put on goodly garments.
6Then the Lord made answer to Job out of the storm-wind, and said,
6And Jehovah answereth Job out of the whirlwind, and saith: --
6Scatter the proud in thy indignation, and behold every arrogant man, and humble him.
7Get your strength together like a man of war: I will put questions to you, and you will give me the answers.
7Gird, I pray thee, as a man, thy loins, I ask thee, and cause thou Me to know.
7Look on all that are proud, and confound them, and crush the wicked in their place,
8Will you even make my right of no value? will you say that I am wrong in order to make clear that you are right?
8Dost thou also make void My judgment? Dost thou condemn Me, That thou mayest be righteous?
8Hide them in the dust together, and plunge their faces into the pit.
9Have you an arm like God? have you a voice of thunder like his?
9And an arm like God hast thou? And with a voice like Him dost thou thunder?
9Then I will confess that thy right hand is able to save thee.
10Put on the ornaments of your pride; be clothed with glory and power:
10Put on, I pray thee, excellency and loftiness, Yea, honour and beauty put on.
10Behold behemoth whom I made with thee, he eateth grass like an ox.
11Let your wrath be overflowing; let your eyes see all the sons of pride, and make them low.
11Scatter abroad the wrath of thine anger, And see every proud one, and make him low.
11His strength is in his loins, and his force in the navel of his belly.
12Send destruction on all who are lifted up, pulling down the sinners from their places.
12See every proud one--humble him, And tread down the wicked in their place.
12He setteth up his tail like a cedar, the sinews of his testicles are wrapped together.
13Let them be covered together in the dust; let their faces be dark in the secret place of the underworld.
13Hide them in the dust together, Their faces bind in secret.
13His bones are like pipes of brass, his gristle like plates of iron.
14Then I will give praise to you, saying that your right hand is able to give you salvation.
14And even I--I do praise thee, For thy right hand giveth salvation to thee.
14He is the beginning of the ways of God, who made him, he will apply his sword.
15See now the Great Beast, whom I made, even as I made you; he takes grass for food, like the ox.
15Lo, I pray thee, Behemoth, that I made with thee: Grass as an ox he eateth.
15To him the mountains bring forth grass: there all the beasts of the field shall play.
16His strength is in his body, and his force in the muscles of his stomach.
16Lo, I pray thee, his power <FI>is<Fi> in his loins, And his strength in the muscles of his belly.
16He sleepeth under the shadow, in the covert of the reed, and in moist places.
17His tail is curving like a cedar; the muscles of his legs are joined together.
17He doth bend his tail as a cedar, The sinews of his thighs are wrapped together,
17The shades cover his shadow, the willows of the brook shall compass him about.
18His bones are pipes of brass, his legs are like rods of iron.
18His bones <FI>are<Fi> tubes of brass, His bones <FI>are<Fi> as a bar of iron.
18Behold, he will drink up a river, and not wonder: and he trusteth that the Jordan may run into his mouth.
19He is the chief of the ways of God, made by him for his pleasure.
19He <FI>is<Fi> a beginning of the ways of God, His Maker bringeth nigh his sword;
19In his eyes as with a hook he shall take him, and bore through his nostrils with stakes.
20He takes the produce of the mountains, where all the beasts of the field are at play.
20For food do mountains bear for him, And all the beasts of the field play there.
20Canst thou draw out the leviathan with a hook, or canst thou tie his tongue with a cord?
21He takes his rest under the trees of the river, and in the pool, under the shade of the water-plants.
21Under shades he lieth down, In a secret place of reed and mire.
21Canst thou put a ring in his nose, or bore through his jaw with a buckle?
22He is covered by the branches of the trees; the grasses of the stream are round him.
22Cover him do shades, <FI>with<Fi> their shadow, Cover him do willows of the brook.
22Will he make many supplications to thee, or speak soft words to thee?
23Truly, if the river is overflowing, it gives him no cause for fear; he has no sense of danger, even if Jordan is rushing against his mouth.
23Lo, a flood oppresseth--he doth not haste, He is confident though Jordan Doth come forth unto his mouth.
23Will he make a covenant with thee, and wilt thou take him to be a servant for ever?
24Will anyone take him when he is on the watch, or put metal teeth through his nose?
24Before his eyes doth <FI>one<Fi> take him, With snares doth <FI>one<Fi> pierce the nose?
24Shalt thou play with him as with a bird, or tie him up for thy handmaids?
