2Suffer me a little, and I will shew thee: for I have yet somewhat to speak in God's behalf.
2Give me a little more time, and I will make it clear to you; for I have still something to say for God.
3I will repeat my knowledge from the beginning, and I will prove my Maker just.
3I will get my knowledge from far, and I will give righteousness to my Maker.
4For indeed my words are without a lie, and perfect knowledge shall be proved to thee.
4For truly my words are not false; one who has all knowledge is talking with you.
5God doth not cast away the mighty, whereas he himself also is mighty.
5Truly, God gives up the hard-hearted, and will not give life to the sinner.
6But he saveth not the wicked, and he giveth judgment to the poor.
6His eyes are ever on the upright, and he gives to the crushed their right;
7He will not take away his eyes from the just, and he placeth kings on the throne for ever, and they are exalted.
7Lifting them up to the seat of kings, and making them safe for ever.
8And if they shall be in chains, and be bound with the cords of poverty:
8And if they have been prisoned in chains, and taken in cords of trouble,
9He shall shew them their works, and their wicked deeds, because they have been violent.
9Then he makes clear to them what they have done, even their evil works in which they have taken pride.
10He also shall open their ear, to correct them: and shall speak, that they may return from iniquity.
10Their ear is open to his teaching, and he gives them orders so that their hearts may be turned from evil.
11If they shall hear and observe, they shall accomplish their days in good, and their years in glory.
11If they give ear to his voice, and do his word, then he gives them long life, and years full of pleasure.
12But if they hear not, they shall pass by the sword, and shall be consumed in folly.
12But if not, they come to their end, and give up their breath without knowledge.
13Dissemblers and crafty men prove the wrath of God, neither shall they cry when they are bound.
13Those who have no fear of God keep wrath stored up in their hearts; they give no cry for help when they are made prisoners.
14Their soul shall die in a storm, and their life among the effeminate.
14They come to their end while they are still young, their life is short like that of those who are used for sex purposes in the worship of their gods.
15He shall deliver the poor out of his distress, and shall open his ear in affliction.
15He makes the wrong done to the poor the way of their salvation, opening their ears by their trouble.
16Therefore he shall set thee at large out of the narrow mouth, and which hath no foundation under it: and the rest of thy table shall be full of fatness.
16...
18Therefore let not anger overcome thee to oppress any man: neither let multitude of gifts turn thee aside.
18...
21Beware thou turn not aside to iniquity: for this thou hast begun to follow after misery.
21Take care not to be turned to sin, for you have taken evil for your part in place of sorrow.
22Behold, God is high in his strength, and none is like him among the lawgivers.
22Truly God is lifted up in strength; who is a ruler like him?
23Who can search out his ways? or who can say to him: Thou hast wrought iniquity?
23Who ever gave orders to him, or said to him, You have done wrong?
24Remember that thou knowest not his work, concerning which men have sung.
24See that you give praise to his work, about which men make songs.
25All men see him, every one beholdeth afar off.
25All people are looking on it; man sees it from far.
26Behold, God is great, exceeding our knowledge: the number of his years is inestimable.
26Truly, God is great, greater than all our knowledge; the number of his years may not be searched out.
27He lifteth up the drops of rain, and poureth out showers like floods:
27For he takes up the drops from the sea; he sends them through his mist as rain,
28Which flow from the clouds that cover all above.
28Flowing down from the sky, and dropping on the peoples.
29If he will spread out clouds as his tent,
29And who has knowledge of how the clouds are stretched out, or of the thunders of his tent?
30And lighten with his light from above, he shall cover also the ends of the sea.
30See, he is stretching out his mist, covering the tops of the mountains with it.
31For by these he judgeth people, and giveth food to many mortals.
31For by these he gives food to the peoples, and bread in full measure.
