2This hast thou reckoned for judgment: Thou hast said--`My righteousness <FI>is<Fi> more than God's?'
2Doth thy thought seem right to thee, that thou shouldst say: I am more just than God?
2Does it seem to you to be right, and righteousness before God, to say,
3For thou sayest, `What doth it profit Thee! What do I profit from my sin?'
3For thou saidst: That which is right doth not please thee: or what will it profit thee if I sin?
3What profit is it to me, and how am I better off than if I had done wrong?
4I return thee words, and thy friends with thee,
4Therefore I will answer thy words, and thy friends with thee.
4I will make answer to you and to your friends:
5Behold attentively the heavens--and see, And behold the clouds, They have been higher than thou.
5Look up to heaven and see, and behold the sky, that it is higher than thee.
5Let your eyes be turned to the heavens, and lifted up to see the skies; they are higher than you.
6If thou hast sinned, what dost thou against Him? And thy transgressions have been multiplied, What dost thou to Him?
6If thou sin, what shalt thou hurt him? and if thy iniquities be multiplied, what shalt thou do against him?
6If you have done wrong, is he any the worse for it? and if your sins are great in number, what is it to him?
7If thou hast been righteous, What dost thou give to Him? Or what from thy hand doth He receive?
7And if thou do justly, what shalt thou give him, or what shall he receive of thy hand?
7If you are upright, what do you give to him? or what does he take from your hand?
8For a man like thyself <FI>is<Fi> thy wickedness, And for a son of man thy righteousness.
8Thy wickedness may hurt a man that is like thee: and thy justice may help the son of man.
8Your evil-doing may have an effect on a man like yourself, or your righteousness on a son of man.
9Because of the multitude of oppressions They cause to cry out, They cry because of the arm of the mighty.
9By reason of the multitude of oppressors they shall cry out: and shall wail for the violence of the arm of tyrants.
9Because the hand of the cruel is hard on them, men are making sounds of grief; they are crying out for help because of the arm of the strong.
10And none said, `Where <FI>is<Fi> God my maker? Giving songs in the night,
10And he hath not said: Where is God, who made me, who hath given songs in the night?
10But no one has said, Where is God my Maker, who gives songs in the night;
11Teaching us more than the beasts of the earth, Yea, than the fowl of the heavens He maketh us wiser.'
11Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and instructeth us more than the fowls of the air.
11Who gives us more knowledge than the beasts of the earth, and makes us wiser than the birds of the heaven?
12There they cry, and He doth not answer, Because of the pride of evil doers.
12There shall they cry, and he will not hear, because of the pride of evil men.
12There they are crying out because of the pride of the evil-doers, but he gives them no answer.
13Surely vanity God doth not hear, And the Mighty doth not behold it.
13God therefore will not hear in vain, and the Almighty will look into the causes of every one.
13But God will not give ear to what is false, or the Ruler of all take note of it;
14Yea, though thou sayest thou dost not behold Him, Judgment <FI>is<Fi> before Him, and stay for Him.
14Yea, when thou shalt say: He considereth not: be judged before him, and expect him.
14How much less when you say that you do not see him; that the cause is before him, and you are waiting for him.
