Job 26

1Then Job answered and said,

1Then Job replied:

2How hast thou helped him that is without power! How hast thou saved the arm that hath no strength!

2You have really helped the weak! You have truly saved the person who has no strength!

3How hast thou counselled him that hath no wisdom, And plentifully declared sound knowledge!

3What great advice you have given to someone without wisdom! You have shown such deep insight!

4To whom hast thou uttered words? And whose spirit came forth from thee?

4Who helped you come up with these words? Whose spirit spoke through you?

5They that are deceased tremble Beneath the waters and the inhabitants thereof.

5The spirits of the dead tremble, those who are beneath the waters and all that live in them.

6Sheol is naked beforeGod, And Abaddon hath no covering.

6The place of the dead lies open before God, and the place of destruction has no covering.

7He stretcheth out the north over empty space, And hangeth the earth upon nothing.

7He stretches the northern skies over empty space and hangs the earth on nothing at all.

8He bindeth up the waters in his thick clouds; And the cloud is not rent under them.

8He wraps the rain in his thick clouds, yet the clouds do not burst under the weight.

9He incloseth the face of his throne, And spreadeth his cloud upon it.

9He covers the face of the full moon, spreading his clouds over it.

10He hath described a boundary upon the face of the waters, Unto the confines of light and darkness.

10He has drawn a circular boundary on the surface of the waters, marking the line between light and darkness.

11The pillars of heaven tremble And are astonished at his rebuke.

11The foundations of the heavens shake and are terrified when he reprimands them.

12He stirreth up the sea with his power, And by his understanding he smiteth through Rahab.

12By his power he quieted the sea; by his wisdom he cut the sea monster Rahab to pieces.

13By his Spirit the heavens are garnished; His hand hath pierced the swift serpent.

13His breath made the heavens beautiful; his hand pierced the escaping snake.

14Lo, these are but the outskirts of his ways: And how small a whisper do we hear of him! But the thunder of his power who can understand?

14And these are just the outer edges of his work—a faint whisper that we hear of him! Who then can understand the thunder of his power?
