1And it came to pass the same year, in the beginning of the reign of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the fourth year, in the fifth month, that Hananiah the son of Azzur, the prophet, who was of Gibeon, spake unto me in the house of Jehovah, in the presence of the priests and of all the people, saying,

1In the same year, at the beginning of the reign of King Zedekiah of Judah, in the fifth month of the fourth year, the prophet Hananiah son of Azzur from Gibeon spoke to me. This happened in the Temple of the LORD, in front of the priests and all the people.

2Thus speaketh Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, saying, I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon.

2He said, 'This is what the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says: I have broken the yoke of the king of Babylon.'

3Within two full years will I bring again into this place all the vessels of Jehovah’s house, that Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took away from this place, and carried to Babylon:

3'Within two years, I will bring back to this place all the articles from the LORD’s Temple that King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon took and carried away to Babylon.'

4and I will bring again to this place Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, with all the captives of Judah, that went to Babylon, saith Jehovah; for I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.

4'I will also bring back Jeconiah son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and all the other captives from Judah who went to Babylon,' says the LORD. 'For I will break the yoke of the king of Babylon.'

5Then the prophet Jeremiah said unto the prophet Hananiah in the presence of the priests, and in the presence of all the people that stood in the house of Jehovah,

5Then the prophet Jeremiah replied to the prophet Hananiah in front of the priests and all the people standing in the Temple of the LORD.

6even the prophet Jeremiah said, Amen: Jehovah do so; Jehovah perform thy words which thou hast prophesied, to bring again the vessels of Jehovah’s house, and all them of the captivity, from Babylon unto this place.

6Jeremiah said, 'Amen! May the LORD do this. May the LORD make the words you have prophesied come true, and bring back the articles of the Temple and all the exiles from Babylon to this place.'

7Nevertheless hear thou now this word that I speak in thine ears, and in the ears of all the people:

7'But listen to what I have to say to you and to all these people.'

8The prophets that have been before me and before thee of old prophesied against many countries, and against great kingdoms, of war, and of evil, and of pestilence.

8'The prophets who lived long ago, before you and me, prophesied war, disaster, and disease against many countries and great kingdoms.'

9The prophet that prophesieth of peace, when the word of the prophet shall come to pass, then shall the prophet be known, that Jehovah hath truly sent him.

9'When a prophet predicts peace, he will be recognized as truly sent by the LORD only if his message actually comes true.'

10Then Hananiah the prophet took the bar from off the prophet Jeremiah’s neck, and brake it.

10Then the prophet Hananiah took the wooden yoke from the neck of the prophet Jeremiah and broke it.

11And Hananiah spake in the presence of all the people, saying, Thus saith Jehovah: Even so will I break the yoke of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon within two full years from off the neck of all the nations. And the prophet Jeremiah went his way.

11Hananiah spoke in front of all the people, saying, 'This is what the LORD says: In the same way, I will break the yoke of King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon off the neck of all the nations within two years.' After this, the prophet Jeremiah went his own way.

12Then the word of Jehovah came unto Jeremiah, after that Hananiah the prophet had broken the bar from off the neck of the prophet Jeremiah, saying,

12A short time after Hananiah had broken the yoke from Jeremiah's neck, the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah.

13Go, and tell Hananiah, saying, Thus saith Jehovah: Thou hast broken the bars of wood; but thou hast made in their stead bars of iron.

13'Go and tell Hananiah: This is what the LORD says: You have broken a wooden yoke, but in its place you have made a yoke of iron.'

14For thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: I have put a yoke of iron upon the neck of all these nations, that they may serve Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and they shall serve him: and I have given him the beasts of the field also.

14'For this is what the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says: I have put an iron yoke on the necks of all these nations to make them serve King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon, and they will serve him. I have even given him control over the wild animals.'

15Then said the prophet Jeremiah unto Hananiah the prophet, Hear now, Hananiah: Jehovah hath not sent thee; but thou makest this people to trust in a lie.

15Then the prophet Jeremiah said to the prophet Hananiah, 'Listen, Hananiah! The LORD has not sent you, but you have made these people believe a lie.'

16Therefore thus saith Jehovah, Behold, I will send thee away from off the face of the earth: this year thou shalt die, because thou hast spoken rebellion against Jehovah.

16'Therefore, this is what the LORD says: I am about to remove you from the face of the earth. You will die this very year because you have preached rebellion against the LORD.'

17So Hananiah the prophet died the same year in the seventh month.

17And the prophet Hananiah died that same year, in the seventh month.
