1The words of Jeremiah the son of Hilkijah, of the priests that were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin:
1Words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah, of the priests who <FI>are<Fi> in Anathoth, in the land of Benjamin,
1The words of Jeremiah, the son of Hilkiah, of the priests who were in Anathoth in the land of Benjamin:
2to whom the word of Jehovah came in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign;
2unto whom the word of Jehovah hath been in the days of Josiah son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his reign,
2To whom the word of the Lord came in the days of Josiah, the son of Amon, king of Judah, in the thirteenth year of his rule.
3it came also in the days of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah, unto the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah the son of Josiah, king of Judah, unto the carrying away of Jerusalem captive, in the fifth month.
3and it is in the days of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, till the completion of the eleventh year of Zedekiah son of Josiah, king of Judah, till the removal of Jerusalem in the fifth month.
3And it came again in the days of Jehoiakim, the son of Josiah, king of Judah, up to the eleventh year of Zedekiah, the son of Josiah, king of Judah; till Jerusalem was taken away in the fifth month.
4And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,
4And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying,
4Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying,
5Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou camest forth out of the womb I hallowed thee, I appointed thee a prophet unto the nations.
5`Before I form thee in the belly, I have known thee; and before thou comest forth from the womb I have separated thee, a prophet to nations I have made thee.'
5Before you were formed in the body of your mother I had knowledge of you, and before your birth I made you holy; I have given you the work of being a prophet to the nations.
6And I said, Alas, Lord Jehovah! behold, I cannot speak; for I am a child.
6And I say, `Ah, Lord Jehovah! lo, I have not known--to speak, for I <FI>am<Fi> a youth.'
6Then said I, O Lord God! see, I have no power of words, for I am a child.
7But Jehovah said unto me, Say not, I am a child; for thou shalt go to whomsoever I shall send thee, and whatsoever I command thee thou shalt speak.
7And Jehovah saith unto me, `Do not say, I <FI>am<Fi> a youth, for to all to whom I send thee thou goest, and all that I command thee thou speakest.
7But the Lord said to me, Do not say, I am a child: for wherever I send you, you are to go, and whatever I give you orders to say, you are to say.
8Be not afraid of them; for I am with thee to deliver thee, saith Jehovah.
8Be not afraid of their faces, for with thee <FI>am<Fi> I to deliver thee, --an affirmation of Jehovah.'
8Have no fear because of them: for I am with you, to keep you safe, says the Lord.
9And Jehovah put forth his hand and touched my mouth; and Jehovah said unto me, Behold, I have put my words in thy mouth.
9And Jehovah putteth forth His hand, and striketh against my mouth, and Jehovah saith unto me, `Lo, I have put my words in thy mouth.
9Then the Lord put out his hand, touching my mouth; and the Lord said to me, See, I have put my words in your mouth:
10See, I have this day set thee over the nations and over the kingdoms, to pluck up, and to break down, and to destroy, and to overthrow, to build and to plant.
10See, I have charged thee this day concerning the nations, and concerning the kingdoms, to pluck up, and to break down, and to destroy, and to throw down, to build, and to plant.'
10See, this day I have put you over the nations and over the kingdoms, for uprooting and smashing down, for destruction and overturning, for building up and planting.
11And the word of Jehovah came to me, saying, Jeremiah, what seest thou? And I said, I see a rod of an almond-tree.
11And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying, `What art thou seeing, Jeremiah?' And I say, `A rod of an almond tree I am seeing.'
11Again the word of the Lord came to me, saying, Jeremiah, what do you see? And I said, I see a branch of an almond-tree.
12And Jehovah said unto me, Thou hast well seen; for I am watchful over my word to perform it.
12And Jehovah saith unto me, `Thou hast well seen: for I am watching over My word to do it.'
12Then the Lord said to me, You have seen well: for I keep watch over my word to give effect to it.
13And the word of Jehovah came to me the second time, saying, What seest thou? And I said, I see a seething-pot, and its face is from the north.
13And there is a word of Jehovah unto me a second time, saying, `What art thou seeing?' And I say, `A blown pot I am seeing, and its face <FI>is<Fi> from the north.'
13And the word of the Lord came to me a second time, saying, What do you see? And I said, I see a boiling pot, and its face is from the north.
14And Jehovah said unto me, Out of the north shall evil break forth upon all the inhabitants of the land.
14And Jehovah saith unto me, `From the north is the evil loosed against all inhabitants of the land.
14Then the Lord said to me, Out of the north evil will come, bursting out on all the people of the land.
15For behold, I am calling all the families of the kingdoms of the north, saith Jehovah, and they shall come, and they shall set every one his throne at the entering of the gates of Jerusalem, and against all the walls thereof round about, and against all the cities of Judah:
15For, lo, I am calling for all families of the kingdoms of the north, --an affirmation of Jehovah--and they have come, and put each his throne at the opening of the gates of Jerusalem, and by its walls round about, and by all cities of Judah.
15For see, I will send for all the families of the kingdoms of the north, says the Lord; and they will come, everyone placing his high seat at the way into Jerusalem, and against its walls on every side, and against all the towns of Judah.
16and I will pronounce my judgments against them for all their wickedness, in that they have forsaken me, and have burned incense unto othergods, and worshipped the works of their own hands.
16And I have spoken My judgments with them concerning all their evil, in that they have forsaken Me, and make perfume to other gods, and bow themselves to the works of their own hands.
16And I will give my decision against them on account of all their evil-doing; because they have given me up, burning perfumes to other gods and worshipping the works of their hands.
17Thou, therefore, gird up thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them all that I shall command thee: be not dismayed at them, lest I cause thee to be dismayed before them.
17`And thou, thou dost gird up thy loins, and hast arisen, and spoken unto them all that I command thee: be not affrighted because of them, lest I affright thee before them.
17So make yourself ready, and go and say to them everything I give you orders to say: do not be overcome by fear of them, or I will send fear on you before them.
18And I, behold, I appoint thee this day as a strong city, and an iron pillar, and brazen walls, against the whole land; against the kings of Judah, against its princes, against its priests, and against the people of the land.
18And I, lo, I have given thee this day for a fenced city, and for an iron pillar, and for brazen walls over all the land, to the kings of Judah, to its heads, to its priests, and to the people of the land;
18For see, this day have I made you a walled town, and an iron pillar, and walls of brass, against all the land, against the kings of Judah, against its captains, against its priests, and against the people of the land.
19And they shall fight against thee, but they shall not prevail against thee: for I am with thee, saith Jehovah, to deliver thee.
19and they have fought against thee, and they prevail not against thee; for with thee <FI>am<Fi> I, --an affirmation of Jehovah--to deliver thee.
19They will be fighting against you, but they will not overcome you: for I am with you, says the Lord, to give you salvation.
