1And the sum concerning the things spoken of <FI>is<Fi> : we have such a chief priest, who did sit down at the right hand of the throne of the greatness in the heavens,
1Now of the things which we have spoken, this is the sum: We have such an high priest who is set on the right hand of the throne of majesty in the heavens,
2of the holy places a servant, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord did set up, and not man,
2A minister of the holies and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord hath pitched, and not man.
3for every chief priest to offer both gifts and sacrifices is appointed, whence <FI>it is<Fi> necessary for this one to have also something that he may offer;
3For every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is necessary that he also should have some thing to offer.
4for if, indeed, he were upon earth, he would not be a priest--(there being the priests who are offering according to the law, the gifts,
4If then he were on earth, he would not be a priest: seeing that there would be others to offer gifts according to the law.
5who unto an example and shadow do serve of the heavenly things, as Moses hath been divinely warned, being about to construct the tabernacle, for `See (saith He) thou mayest make all things according to the pattern that was shewn to thee in the mount;') --
5Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things. As it was answered to Moses, when he was to finish the tabernacle: See (saith he) that thou make all things according to the pattern which was shewn thee on the mount.
6and now he hath obtained a more excellent service, how much also of a better covenant is he mediator, which on better promises hath been sanctioned,
6But now he hath obtained a better ministry, by how much also he is a mediator of a better testament which is established on better promises.
7for if that first were faultless, a place would not have been sought for a second.
7For if that former had been faultless, there should not indeed a place have been sought for a second.
8For finding fault, He saith to them, `Lo, days come, saith the Lord, and I will complete with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah, a new covenant,
8For, finding fault with them, he saith: Behold the days shall come, saith the Lord: and I will perfect, unto the house of Israel and unto the house of Juda, a new testament:
9not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers, in the day of My taking <FI>them<Fi> by their hand, to bring them out of the land of Egypt--because they did not remain in My covenant, and I did not regard them, saith the Lord, --
9Not according to the testament which I made to their fathers, on the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt: because they continued not in my testament: and I regarded them not, saith the Lord.
10because this <FI>is<Fi> the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel, after those days, saith the Lord, giving My laws into their mind, and upon their hearts I will write them, and I will be to them for a God, and they shall be to Me for a people;
10For this is the testament which I will make to the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord: I will give my laws into their mind: and in their heart will I write them. And I will be their God: and they shall be my people.
11and they shall not teach each his neighbour, and each his brother, saying, Know thou the Lord, because they shall all know Me from the small one of them unto the great one of them,
11And they shall not teach every man his neighbour and every man his brother, saying: Know the Lord. For all shall know me, from the least to the greatest of them.
