What Hebrews 1:2 means

Now the contrast arrives: in these last days God has spoken “in his Son.” This means God’s ultimate self-disclosure has come personally, not merely through inspired spokesmen. The Son is “heir of all things,” showing His rightful ownership and destiny over the entire created order. Moreover, God made “the worlds” through Him, placing the Son at the beginning of all things as the divine agent of creation. Revelation and creation converge in Him—He is both the message and the Maker. The phrase “at the end of these days” signals that with the Son’s coming, the decisive era in God’s redemptive plan has arrived and begun to unfold.

Context

Verse 2 completes the contrast with verse 1 by identifying the Son as God’s final and supreme revelation. It introduces key themes that will be expanded in verses 3–4: the Son’s role as creator and heir, His divine status, and His superiority over all other beings. This sets up the chapter’s central argument that the Son far surpasses angels. The flow moves from the Son’s identity and authority (vv. 2–3) to His enthronement (v. 3), preparing for the comparison with angels and the scriptural proofs that follow (vv. 5–14).

v.2This passage
