Genesis 10

1Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, namely, of Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood.

1This is the account of the families of Noah’s sons—Shem, Ham, and Japheth. They had sons born to them after the great flood.

2The sons of Japheth: Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras.

2The sons of Japheth were Gomer, Magog, Madai, Javan, Tubal, Meshech, and Tiras.

3And the sons of Gomer: Ashkenaz, and Riphath, and Togarmah.

4And the sons of Javan: Elishah, and Tarshish, Kittim, and Dodanim.

4The sons of Javan were Elishah, Tarshish, Kittim, and Rodanim.

5Of these were the isles of the nations divided in their lands, every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations.

5From these descendants, the people of the coastlands spread out into their own lands and nations, each group with its own language and family lines.

6And the sons of Ham: Cush, and Mizraim, and Put, and Canaan.

6The sons of Ham were Cush, Egypt, Put, and Canaan.

7And the sons of Cush: Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabteca; and the sons of Raamah: Sheba, and Dedan.

7The sons of Cush were Seba, Havilah, Sabtah, Raamah, and Sabteca. The sons of Raamah were Sheba and Dedan.

8And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth.

8Cush was also the father of Nimrod, who became the first heroic warrior on the earth.

9He was a mighty hunter before Jehovah: wherefore it is said, Like Nimrod a mighty hunter before Jehovah.

9He was a mighty hunter in the Lord’s sight. That is why people say, 'Like Nimrod, a mighty hunter before the Lord.'

10And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar.

10The first centers of his kingdom were Babylon, Erech, Akkad, and Calneh, in the land of Babylonia.

11Out of that land he went forth into Assyria, and builded Nineveh, and Rehoboth-Ir, and Calah,

12and Resen between Nineveh and Calah (the same is the great city).

13And Mizraim begat Ludim, and Anamim, and Lehabim, and Naphtuhim,

13Egypt was the ancestor of the Ludites, Anamites, Lehabites, Naphtuhites,

14and Pathrusim, and Casluhim (whence went forth the Philistines), and Caphtorim.

14Pathrusites, Casluhites (who were the ancestors of the Philistines), and Caphtorites.

15And Canaan begat Sidon his first-born, and Heth,

15Canaan was the father of Sidon (his oldest son) and Heth,

16and the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgashite,

16as well as the Jebusites, Amorites, Girgashites,

17and the Hivite, and the Arkite, and the Sinite,

17Hivites, Arkites, Sinites,

18and the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite: and afterward were the families of the Canaanite spread abroad.

18Arvadites, Zemarites, and Hamathites. Later, the Canaanite clans spread out even further.

19And the border of the Canaanite was from Sidon, as thou goest toward Gerar, unto Gaza; as thou goest toward Sodom and Gomorrah and Admah and Zeboiim, unto Lasha.

19The borders of Canaan went from Sidon toward Gerar as far as Gaza, and then toward Sodom, Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboiim, as far as Lasha.

20These are the sons of Ham, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, in their nations.

20These were the descendants of Ham, identified by their clans, languages, territories, and nations.

21And unto Shem, the father of all the children of Eber, the elder brother of Japheth, to him also were children born.

21Sons were also born to Shem, the older brother of Japheth and the ancestor of all the children of Eber.

22The sons of Shem: Elam, and Asshur, and Arpachshad, and Lud, and Aram.

22The sons of Shem were Elam, Asshur, Arphaxad, Lud, and Aram.

23And the sons of Aram: Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Mash.

23The sons of Aram were Uz, Hul, Gether, and Meshech.

24And Arpachshad begat Shelah; and Shelah begat Eber.

24Arphaxad was the father of Shelah, and Shelah was the father of Eber.

25And unto Eber were born two sons: the name of the one was Peleg; for in his days was the earth divided; and his brother’s name was Joktan.

25Two sons were born to Eber. One was named Peleg, because the earth was divided during his lifetime; his brother was named Joktan.

26And Joktan begat Almodad, and Sheleph, and Hazarmaveth, and Jerah,

26Joktan was the father of Almodad, Sheleph, Hazarmaveth, Jerah,

27and Hadoram, and Uzal, and Diklah,

27Hadoram, Uzal, Diklah,

28and Obal, and Abimael, and Sheba,

28Obal, Abimael, Sheba,

29and Ophir, and Havilah, and Jobab: all these were the sons of Joktan.

30And their dwelling was from Mesha, as thou goest toward Sephar, the mountain of the east.

30The area where they lived stretched from Mesha toward Sephar in the eastern hill country.

31These are the sons of Shem, after their families, after their tongues, in their lands, after their nations.

31These were the descendants of Shem, identified by their clans, languages, territories, and nations.

32These are the families of the sons of Noah, after their generations, in their nations: and of these were the nations divided in the earth after the flood.
