What Ezra 2:34 means
The children of Jericho, three hundred forty and five, are counted. Jericho, a city with weighty biblical history, sees a moderate return. This reflects the intention to replant Israel’s presence even in significant border towns. Their number would help secure approaches to Judah and facilitate commerce. Recording Jericho’s returners preserves its place within the restored community and its role in supporting the life of Jerusalem and the temple through produce, labor, and pilgrim flows.

Context
Near the end of the town-based section, Jericho’s inclusion shows the breadth of resettlement across historically important locations. One more town group, Senaah, will complete this segment (v. 35). Afterward, the narrative will turn from geography to ecclesiology: identifying the priests, Levites, singers, porters, and Nethinim (vv. 36–58) who will staff the temple and its services in the restored community.
