1Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia, that the word of Jehovah by the mouth of Jeremiah might be accomplished, Jehovah stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, andput italso in writing, saying,

1In the first year that Cyrus was king of Persia, the LORD moved his heart to make an announcement. This happened so that what the LORD had promised through the prophet Jeremiah would come true. Cyrus sent this message throughout his whole kingdom and also put it in writing:

2Thus saith Cyrus king of Persia, All the kingdoms of the earth hath Jehovah, the God of heaven, given me; and he hath charged me to build him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah.

2'This is what King Cyrus of Persia says: The LORD, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth. He has appointed me to build a temple for him at Jerusalem in the land of Judah.

3Whosoever there is among you of all his people, his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and build the house of Jehovah, the God of Israel (he is God), which is in Jerusalem.

3Any of you who belong to his people may go to Jerusalem in Judah to rebuild the temple of the LORD, the God of Israel, who is the true God. May your God be with you.

4And whosoever is left, in any place where he sojourneth, let the men of his place help him with silver, and with gold, and with goods, and with beasts, besides the freewill-offering for the house of God which is in Jerusalem.

4In any place where these survivors are living, their neighbors must help them. They should give them silver, gold, supplies, and livestock, along with voluntary gifts for the temple of God in Jerusalem.'

5Then rose up the heads of fathers’housesof Judah and Benjamin, and the priests, and the Levites, even all whose spirit God had stirred to go up to build the house of Jehovah which is in Jerusalem.

5Then the family leaders of the tribes of Judah and Benjamin, the priests, and the Levites prepared to go. These were the people whose hearts God had moved to go and rebuild the temple of the LORD in Jerusalem.

6And all they that were round about them strengthened their hands with vessels of silver, with gold, with goods, and with beasts, and with precious things, besides all that was willingly offered.

6All their neighbors supported them by giving them objects made of silver and gold, supplies, livestock, and other valuable gifts, in addition to everything given as a voluntary offering.

7Also Cyrus the king brought forth the vessels of the house of Jehovah, which Nebuchadnezzar had brought forth out of Jerusalem, and had put in the house of his gods;

7King Cyrus also brought out the items that belonged in the LORD’s temple. King Nebuchadnezzar had taken these from Jerusalem and placed them in the temple of his own gods.

8even those did Cyrus king of Persia bring forth by the hand of Mithredath the treasurer, and numbered them unto Sheshbazzar, the prince of Judah.

8King Cyrus of Persia had Mithredath the treasurer bring them out and count them for Sheshbazzar, the leader of the people of Judah.

9And this is the number of them: thirty platters of gold, a thousand platters of silver, nine and twenty knives,

9This was the inventory: 30 gold basins, 1,000 silver basins, 29 silver knives,

10thirty bowls of gold, silver bowls of a second sort four hundred and ten, and other vessels a thousand.

1030 gold bowls, 410 matching silver bowls, and 1,000 other items.

11All the vessels of gold and of silver were five thousand and four hundred. All these did Sheshbazzar bring up, when they of the captivity were brought up from Babylon unto Jerusalem.

11In total, there were 5,400 gold and silver items. Sheshbazzar brought all of these along when the captives were allowed to go from Babylon back to Jerusalem.
