Ezekiel 40

1In the twenty-fifth year after we had been taken away prisoners, in the first month of the year, on the tenth day of the month, in the fourteenth year after the town was taken, on the very same day, the hand of the Lord was on me, and he took me there.

1In the twenty and fifth year of our removal, in the beginning of the year, in the tenth of the month, in the fourteenth year after that the city was smitten, in this self-same day hath a hand of Jehovah been upon me, and He bringeth me in thither;

1In the twenty-fifth year of our captivity, in the beginning of the year, on the tenth of the month, in the fourteenth year after that the city was smitten, on that same day the hand of Jehovah was upon me, and he brought me thither.

2In the visions of God he took me into the land of Israel, and put me down on a very high mountain, on which there was, as it seemed, a building like a town opposite me.

3He took me there, and I saw a man, looking like brass, with a linen cord in his hand and a measuring rod: and he was stationed in the doorway.

3And He bringeth me in thither, and lo, a man, his appearance as the appearance of brass, and a thread of flax in his hand, and a measuring-reed, and he is standing at the gate,

3And he brought me thither, and behold, there was a man whose appearance was like the appearance of brass, with a flax-cord in his hand, and a measuring-reed; and he stood in the gate.

4And the man said to me, Son of man, see with your eyes and give hearing with your ears, and take to heart everything I am going to let you see; for in order that I might let you see them, you have come here: and give an account of all you see to the children of Israel.

4and the man speaketh unto me: `Son of man, see with thine eyes, And with thine ears hear, And set thy heart to all that I am shewing thee, For, in order to shew <FI>it<Fi> thee, Thou hast been brought in hither, Declare all that thou art seeing to the house of Israel.'

4And the man said unto me, Son of man, behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears, and set thy heart upon all that I shall shew thee; for in order that it might be shewn unto thee art thou brought hither. Declare to the house of Israel all that thou seest.

5And there was a wall on the outside of the house all round, and in the man's hand there was a measuring rod six cubits long by a cubit and a hand's measure: so he took the measure of the building from side to side, one rod; and from base to top, one rod.

5And lo, a wall on the outside of the house all round about, and in the hand of the man a measuring-reed, six cubits by a cubit and a handbreadth, and he measureth the breadth of the building one reed, and the height one reed.

5And behold, there was a wall on the outside of the house round about, and in the man's hand a measuring-reed of six cubits, [each] of one cubit and a hand breadth. And he measured the breadth of the building, one reed; and the height, one reed.

6Then he came to the doorway looking to the east, and went up by its steps; and he took the measure of the doorstep, one rod wide.

6And he cometh in unto the gate whose front <FI>is<Fi> eastward, and he goeth up by its steps, and he measureth the threshold of the gate one reed broad, even the one threshold one reed broad,

7And the watchmen's rooms were one rod long and one rod wide; and the space between the rooms was five cubits; the doorstep of the doorway, by the covered way of the doorway inside, was one rod.

7and the little chamber one reed long and one reed broad, and between the little chambers five cubits, and the threshold of the gate, from the side of the porch of the gate from within, one reed.

7And [each] chamber was one reed long and one reed broad; and between the chambers were five cubits; and the threshold of the gate, beside the porch of the gate within, was one reed.

8And he took the measure of the covered way of the doorway inside,

9Eight cubits; and its uprights, two cubits; the covered way of the doorway was inside.

11And he took the measure of the opening of the doorway, ten cubits wide; and the way down the doorway was thirteen cubits;

11And he measureth the breadth of the opening of the gate ten cubits, the length of the gate thirteen cubits;

11And he measured the breadth of the entry of the gate, ten cubits; [and] the length of the gate, thirteen cubits.

12And the space in front of the rooms, a cubit on this side and a cubit on that side; and the rooms six cubits on this side and six cubits on that.

12and a border before the little chambers, one cubit, and one cubit <FI>is<Fi> the border on this side, and the little chamber <FI>is<Fi> six cubits on this side, and six cubits on that side.

12And there was a border before the chambers of one cubit, and a border of one cubit on the other side; and the chambers were six cubits on this side, and six cubits on that side.

13And he took the measure of the doorway from the back of one room to the back of the other, twenty-five cubits across, from door to door.

13And he measureth the gate from the roof of the <FI>one<Fi> little chamber to the roof of another; the breadth twenty and five cubits, opening over-against opening.

14And he took the measure of the covered way, twenty cubits; and opening from the covered way of the doorway was the open square round about.

14And he maketh the posts of sixty cubits, even unto the post of the court, the gate all round about;

15And from before the opening of the doorway to before the inner covered way of the doorway was fifty cubits.

15and by the front of the gate of the entrance, by the front of the porch of the inner gate, fifty cubits;

15And from the front of the gate of the entrance unto the front of the porch of the inner gate were fifty cubits.

16And the rooms and their uprights had sloping windows inside the doorway all round, and in the same way the covered way had windows all round on the inside: and on every upright there were palm-trees.

16and narrow windows <FI>are<Fi> unto the little chambers, and unto their posts at the inside of the gate all round about--and so to the arches--and windows all round about <FI>are<Fi> at the inside, and at the post <FI>are<Fi> palm-trees.

16And there were closed windows to the chambers, and to their posts within the gate round about, and likewise to the projections; and the windows round about were inward; and upon [each] post were palm-trees.

17Then he took me into the outer square, and there were rooms and a stone floor made for the open square all round: there were thirty rooms on the stone floor.

17And he bringeth me in unto the outer court, and lo, chambers and a pavement made for the court all round about--thirty chambers on the pavement--

18And the stone floor was by the side of the doorways, and was as wide as the doorways were long, even the lower floor.

18And the pavement was by the side of the gates, answering to the length of the gates, [namely] the lower pavement.

19Then he took the measure of the square across, from before the lower doorway inside to before the inner doorway outside, one hundred cubits. And he took me in the direction of the north,

19and he measureth the breadth from before the lower gate, to the front of the inner court, on the outside, a hundred cubits, eastward and northward.

20And there was a doorway to the outer square, looking to the north; and he took the measure of it to see how wide and how long it was.

21And it had three rooms on this side of it and three on that; its uprights and its covered ways were the same size as those of the first doorway: it was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.

21and its little chambers, three on this side, and three on that side, and its posts and its arches have been according to the measure of the first gate, fifty cubits its length, and the breadth five and twenty by the cubit;

21And its chambers were three on this side and three on that side; and its posts and its projections were according to the measure of the first gate: its length was fifty cubits, and breadth five and twenty cubits.

22And its windows, and the windows of its covered ways, and its palm-trees, were the same as those of the doorway looking to the east; and there were seven steps up to it; and the covered way went inside.

23And there was a doorway to the inner square opposite the doorway on the north, like the doorway on the east; and he took the measure from doorway to doorway, a hundred cubits.

23And the gate of the inner court <FI>is<Fi> over-against the gate at the north and at the east; and he measureth from gate unto gate, a hundred cubits.

23And the gate of the inner court was opposite to the gate toward the north, and toward the east; and he measured from gate to gate a hundred cubits.

24And he took me to the south, and I saw a doorway looking to the south: and he took the measure of its rooms and its uprights and its covered ways by these measures.

24And he causeth me to go southward, and lo, a gate southward, and he hath measured its posts and its arches according to these measures;

24And he brought me toward the south: and behold, there was a gate toward the south; and he measured its posts and its projections according to these measures.

25And there were windows in it and in the covered way all round, like the other windows: it was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.

27And there was a doorway to the inner square looking to the south: he took the measure from doorway to doorway to the south, a hundred cubits.

27And there was a gate to the inner court toward the south; and he measured from gate to gate toward the south, a hundred cubits.

28Then he took me to the inner square by the south doorway: and he took the measure of the south doorway by these measures;

28And he bringeth me in unto the inner court by the south gate, and he measureth the south gate according to these measures;

28And he brought me into the inner court by the south gate; and he measured the south gate according to these measures:

29And the rooms in it and the uprights and the covered ways, by these measures:

29and its little chambers, and its posts, and its arches <FI>are<Fi> according to these measures, and windows <FI>are<Fi> to it and to its arches all round about; fifty cubits the length, and the breadth twenty and five cubits.

29and its chambers, and its posts, and its projections, according to these measures; and there were windows to it and to its projections round about: the length was fifty cubits, and the breadth twenty-five cubits.

30And there were windows in it and in the covered way all round: it was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.

30As to the arches all round about, the length <FI>is<Fi> five and twenty cubits, and the breadth five cubits;

31The covered way was on the side nearest the outer square; and there were palm-trees on the uprights: and there were eight steps going up to it.

31and its arches <FI>are<Fi> unto the outer court, and palm-trees <FI>are<Fi> unto its posts, and eight steps <FI>are<Fi> its ascent.

31And its projections were toward the outer court; and there were palm-trees upon its posts: and its ascent was [by] eight steps.

32And he took me into the inner square facing the east: and he took the measure of the doorway by these measures;

32And he bringeth me in unto the inner court eastward, and he measureth the gate according to these measures;

32And he brought me into the inner court toward the east; and he measured the gate according to these measures:

33And of the rooms in it and its uprights and its covered ways, by these measures: and there were windows in it and in the covered way round about: it was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.

33and its little chambers, and its posts, and its arches <FI>are<Fi> according to these measures: and windows <FI>are<Fi> to it and to its arches all round about, the length fifty cubits, and the breadth five and twenty cubits;

35And he took me to the north doorway: and he took the measure of it by these measures;

35And he bringeth me in unto the north gate, and hath measured according to these measures;

35And he brought me to the north gate, and he measured [it] according to these measures:

36Its rooms, its uprights, and its covered way had the same measures, and its covered way had windows all round: it was fifty cubits long and twenty-five cubits wide.

36its little chambers, its posts, and its arches; and windows <FI>are<Fi> to it all round about: the length fifty cubits, and the breadth five and twenty cubits;

38And there was a room with a door in the covered way of the doorway, where the burned offering was washed.

38And the chamber and its opening <FI>is<Fi> by the posts of the gates, there they purge the burnt-offering.

38And there was a cell and its entry by the posts of the gates; there they rinsed the burnt-offering.

39And in the covered way of the doorway there were two tables on this side and two tables on that side, on which the burned offering and the sin-offering and the offering for error were put to death:

39And in the porch of the gate <FI>are<Fi> two tables on this side, and two tables on that side, to slaughter on them the burnt-offering, and the sin-offering, and the guilt-offering;

39And in the porch of the gate were two tables on this side, and two tables on that side, to slay thereon the burnt-offering and the sin-offering and the trespass-offering.

40On the outer side, to the north, as one goes up to the opening of the doorway, were two tables.

40and at the side without, at the going up to the opening of the north gate, <FI>are<Fi> two tables; and at the other side that <FI>is<Fi> at the porch of the gate, <FI>are<Fi> two tables;

40And at the side without, at the ascent to the entry of the north gate, were two tables; and on the other side, which was at the porch of the gate, were two tables:

41There were four tables on one side and four tables on the other, by the side of the doorway; eight tables, on which they put to death the beasts for the offerings.

42And there were four tables for the burned offering, made of cut stone, one and a half cubits long, one and a half cubits wide and a cubit high, where the instruments were placed which were used for putting to death the burned offering and the beasts for the offerings.

42And the four tables for burnt-offering <FI>are<Fi> of hewn stone: the length one cubit and a half, and the breadth one cubit and a half, and the height one cubit: on them they place the instruments with which they slaughter the burnt-offering and the sacrifice.

42— and at the ascent, four tables of hewn stone, of a cubit and a half long, and a cubit and a half broad, and one cubit high; whereon also they laid the instruments with which they slew the burnt-offering and the sacrifice.

43And they had edges all round as wide as a man's hand: and on the tables was the flesh of the offerings.

43And the boundaries <FI>are<Fi> one handbreadth, prepared within all round about: and on the tables <FI>is<Fi> the flesh of the offering.

43And the double hooks of a hand breadth were fastened round about within; and upon the tables [they put] the flesh of the offering.

44And he took me into the inner square, and there were two rooms in the inner square, one at the side of the north doorway, facing south; and one at the side of the south doorway, facing north.

44And on the outside of the inner gate <FI>are<Fi> chambers of the singers, in the inner court, that <FI>are<Fi> at the side of the north gate, and their fronts <FI>are<Fi> southward, one at the side of the east gate <FI>hath<Fi> the front northward.

44And outside the inner gate were two cells in the inner court, one at the side of the north gate, and its front towards the south; the other was at the side of the south gate, the front towards the north.

45And he said to me, This room, facing south, is for the priests who have the care of the house.

45And he speaketh unto me: `This chamber, whose front <FI>is<Fi> southward, <FI>is<Fi> for priests keeping charge of the house;

45And he said unto me, This cell whose front is towards the south is for the priests, the keepers of the charge of the house.

46And the room facing north is for the priests who have the care of the altar: these are the sons of Zadok, who, from among the sons of Levi, come near to the Lord to do the work of his house.

46and the chamber, whose front <FI>is<Fi> northward, <FI>is<Fi> for priests keeping charge of the altar: they <FI>are<Fi> sons of Zadok, who are drawing near of the sons of Levi unto Jehovah, to serve Him.'

46And the cell whose front is toward the north is for the priests, the keepers of the charge of the altar. These are the sons of Zadok, those who, from among the sons of Levi, approach unto Jehovah to minister unto him.

47And he took the measure of the open square, a hundred cubits long and a hundred cubits wide, being square; and the altar was in front of the house.

47And he measureth the court: the length a hundred cubits, and the breadth a hundred cubits, square, and the altar <FI>is<Fi> before the house.

48Then he took me to the covered way before the house, and took the measure of its uprights, five cubits on one side and five cubits on the other: and the doorway was fourteen cubits wide; and the side-walls of the doorway were three cubits on one side and three cubits on the other.

48And he bringeth me in unto the porch of the house, and he measureth the post of the porch, five cubits on this side, and five cubits on that side, and the breadth of the gate, three cubits on this side, and three cubits on that side;

49The covered way was twenty cubits long and twelve cubits wide, and they went up to it by ten steps; and there were pillars by the uprights, one on one side and one on the other.
