1And Jehovah spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt, saying,
1The LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt and said,
2This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.
2"This month will be the beginning of your calendar; it will be the first month of the year for you.
3Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to their fathers’ houses, a lamb for a household:
3Tell the whole community of Israel that on the tenth day of this month, each man is to take a lamb for his family—one lamb per household.
4and if the household be too little for a lamb, then shall he and his neighbor next unto his house take one according to the number of the souls; according to every man’s eating ye shall make your count for the lamb.
4If a family is too small to eat a whole lamb, they should share one with their closest neighbor, based on how many people there are. You should divide the lamb according to what each person can eat.
5Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male a year old: ye shall take it from the sheep, or from the goats:
5Your lamb must be a one-year-old male without any defects; you may take it from either the sheep or the goats.
6and ye shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month; and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at even.
6Take care of it until the fourteenth day of the month. Then all the people of the community of Israel must slaughter their animals at twilight.
7And they shall take of the blood, and put it on the two side-posts and on the lintel, upon the houses wherein they shall eat it.
7They are to take some of the blood and smear it on the two sides and the top of the doorframe of the houses where they eat the animal.
8And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; with bitter herbs they shall eat it.
8That same night they must eat the meat roasted over the fire, along with bitter herbs and bread made without yeast.
9Eat not of it raw, nor boiled at all with water, but roast with fire; its head with its legs and with the inwards thereof.

10And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; but that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.

11This is how you are to eat it: with your coat tucked into your belt, your sandals on your feet, and your staff in your hand. Eat it in a hurry; it is the LORD’s Passover.
12For I will go through the land of Egypt in that night, and will smite all the first-born in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments: I am Jehovah.
12On that night I will pass through the land of Egypt and strike down every firstborn son and firstborn animal. I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the LORD.
13And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and there shall no plague be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
13The blood will be a sign on the houses where you are. When I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike the land of Egypt.
14And this day shall be unto you for a memorial, and ye shall keep it a feast to Jehovah: throughout your generations ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.
14This day will be a day for you to remember. You are to celebrate it as a festival to the LORD for all generations to come; this is a permanent law.
15Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread; even the first day ye shall put away leaven out of your houses: for whosoever eateth leavened bread from the first day until the seventh day, that soul shall be cut off from Israel.
15For seven days you must eat bread made without yeast. On the first day, you must remove all yeast from your houses. Anyone who eats anything with yeast in it from the first day through the seventh day must be cut off from Israel.
16And in the first day there shall be to you a holy convocation, and in the seventh day a holy convocation; no manner of work shall be done in them, save that which every man must eat, that only may be done by you.
16Hold a holy assembly on the first day and another on the seventh day. Do no work at all on these days, except to prepare the food that everyone must eat.
17And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread; for in this selfsame day have I brought your hosts out of the land of Egypt: therefore shall ye observe this day throughout your generations by an ordinance for ever.
17Celebrate the Festival of Unleavened Bread, because on this very day I brought your large groups out of Egypt. Observe this day as a permanent law for all your generations.
18In the first month, on the fourteenth day of the month at even, ye shall eat unleavened bread, until the one and twentieth day of the month at even.

19Seven days shall there be no leaven found in your houses: for whosoever eateth that which is leavened, that soul shall be cut off from the congregation of Israel, whether he be a sojourner, or one that is born in the land.
19For seven days, no yeast is to be found in your houses. Anyone, whether a foreigner or native-born, who eats anything with yeast in it must be cut off from the community of Israel.
20Ye shall eat nothing leavened; in all your habitations shall ye eat unleavened bread.

21Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said unto them, Draw out, and take you lambs according to your families, and kill the passover.
21Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel and told them, "Go and pick out lambs for your families and slaughter the Passover lamb.
22And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the basin, and strike the lintel and the two side-posts with the blood that is in the basin; and none of you shall go out of the door of his house until the morning.
22Take a bunch of hyssop branches, dip it in the blood in the bowl, and smear the blood on the top and both sides of the doorframe. None of you must go out of the door of your house until morning.
23For Jehovah will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side-posts, Jehovah will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.
23When the LORD passes through the land to strike down the Egyptians, he will see the blood on the top and the sides of the doorframe and will pass over that doorway. He will not let the destroyer enter your houses to strike you down.
24And ye shall observe this thing for an ordinance to thee and to thy sons for ever.
24Obey these instructions as a lasting law for you and your descendants.
25And it shall come to pass, when ye are come to the land which Jehovah will give you, according as he hath promised, that ye shall keep this service.
25When you enter the land that the LORD will give you as he promised, you must continue this ceremony.
26And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say unto you, What mean ye by this service?
26And when your children ask you, 'What does this ceremony mean to you?'
27that ye shall say, It is the sacrifice of Jehovah’s passover, who passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians, and delivered our houses. And the people bowed the head and worshipped.
27tell them, 'It is the Passover sacrifice to the LORD, who passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt and spared our homes when he struck down the Egyptians.'" Then the people bowed down and worshiped.
28And the children of Israel went and did so; as Jehovah had commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they.
28The Israelites went and did exactly what the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron.
29And it came to pass at midnight, that Jehovah smote all the first-born in the land of Egypt, from the first-born of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the first-born of the captive that was in the dungeon; and all the first-born of cattle.
29At midnight the LORD struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh, who sat on the throne, to the firstborn of the prisoner in the dungeon, and all the firstborn of the livestock.
30And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt; for there was not a house where there was not one dead.
30Pharaoh and all his officials and all the Egyptians got up during the night, and there was loud wailing in Egypt, because there was not a single house without someone dead.
31And he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, Rise up, get you forth from among my people, both ye and the children of Israel; and go, serve Jehovah, as ye have said.
31During the night Pharaoh summoned Moses and Aaron and said, "Leave! Get away from my people—both you and the Israelites! Go and worship the LORD as you requested.
32Take both your flocks and your herds, as ye have said, and be gone; and bless me also.
32Take your flocks and herds, as you said, and leave. And bless me too."
33And the Egyptians were urgent upon the people, to send them out of the land in haste; for they said, We are all dead men.
33The Egyptians urged the people to hurry and leave the country. "Otherwise," they said, "we will all die!"
34And the people took their dough before it was leavened, their kneading-troughs being bound up in their clothes upon their shoulders.
34So the people took their dough before the yeast was added, and carried it on their shoulders in kneading bowls wrapped in their clothing.
35And the children of Israel did according to the word of Moses; and they asked of the Egyptians jewels of silver, and jewels of gold, and raiment:
35The Israelites did as Moses said and asked the Egyptians for silver and gold jewelry and for clothing.
36and Jehovah gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they let them have what they asked. And they despoiled the Egyptians.
36The LORD made the Egyptians feel favorable toward the people, and they gave them what they asked for; so they stripped the Egyptians of their wealth.
37And the children of Israel journeyed from Rameses to Succoth, about six hundred thousand on foot that were men, besides children.
37The Israelites traveled from Rameses to Succoth. There were about six hundred thousand men on foot, besides women and children.
38And a mixed multitude went up also with them; and flocks, and herds, even very much cattle.
38Many other people went up with them, along with large numbers of livestock, both flocks and herds.
39And they baked unleavened cakes of the dough which they brought forth out of Egypt; for it was not leavened, because they were thrust out of Egypt, and could not tarry, neither had they prepared for themselves any victuals.
39With the dough they had brought from Egypt, they baked cakes of unleavened bread. The dough had no yeast because they had been driven out of Egypt and did not have time to prepare food for themselves.
40Now the time that the children of Israel dwelt in Egypt was four hundred and thirty years.

41And it came to pass at the end of four hundred and thirty years, even the selfsame day it came to pass, that all the hosts of Jehovah went out from the land of Egypt.

42It is a night to be much observed unto Jehovah for bringing them out from the land of Egypt: this is that night of Jehovah, to be much observed of all the children of Israel throughout their generations.
42Because the LORD kept watch that night to bring them out of Egypt, this same night belongs to the LORD; it is to be kept as a vigil by all the Israelites for generations to come.
43And Jehovah said unto Moses and Aaron, This is the ordinance of the passover: there shall no foreigner eat thereof;
43The LORD said to Moses and Aaron, "These are the regulations for the Passover: No foreigner is to eat it.
44but every man’s servant that is bought for money, when thou hast circumcised him, then shall he eat thereof.
44Any slave you have bought may eat it after you have circumcised him,
45A sojourner and a hired servant shall not eat thereof.
45but a temporary resident or a hired hand may not eat it.
46In one house shall it be eaten; thou shalt not carry forth aught of the flesh abroad out of the house; neither shall ye break a bone thereof.
46It must be eaten inside the house; take none of the meat outside the house. Do not break any of its bones.
48And when a stranger shall sojourn with thee, and will keep the passover to Jehovah, let all his males be circumcised, and then let him come near and keep it; and he shall be as one that is born in the land: but no uncircumcised person shall eat thereof.
48A foreigner residing among you who wants to celebrate the LORD’s Passover must have all the males in his household circumcised; then he may take part like a native-born Israelite. No uncircumcised person may eat it.
49One law shall be to him that is home-born, and unto the stranger that sojourneth among you.
49The same law applies both to the native-born and to the foreigner residing among you."
