What Ephesians 4:24 means

Finally, put on the new self, the person you are in Christ, “created after God” in righteousness and holiness of the truth. This new self is not self-made; it is God’s new creation work, restoring His image in believers. Righteousness speaks of right conduct before others; holiness speaks of consecration unto God. Both are grounded in truth, not deception. To put on the new self is to actively embrace a new identity and way of life that reflects God’s character. This positive clothing completes the turn from deceitful lusts to truth-shaped holiness.

Context

This verse concludes the threefold pattern of transformation (verses 22–24). Having renounced the old and embraced inner renewal, believers are to live out their God-created new identity. With this theological foundation laid, Paul immediately moves to practical applications in community life (verses 25–32): truthfulness, righteous handling of anger, honest labor and generosity, edifying speech, sensitivity to the Holy Spirit, and kindness and forgiveness. The ethics that follow are expressions of the new self.

v.24This passage

v.25Wherefore, putting away falsehood, speak ye truth each one with his neighbor: for we are members one of another.
