1If there arise in the midst of thee a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and he give thee a sign or a wonder,
1If ever you have among you a prophet or a dreamer of dreams and he gives you a sign or a wonder,
1If there arise among you a prophet, or one that dreameth dreams, and he give thee a sign or a wonder,
2and the sign or the wonder come to pass, whereof he spake unto thee, saying, Let us go after other gods, which thou hast not known, and let us serve them;
2And the sign or the wonder takes place, and he says to you, Let us go after other gods, which are strange to you, and give them worship;
2and the sign or the wonder come to pass that he told unto thee, when he said, Let us go after othergods, whom thou hast not known, and let us serve them,
3thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or unto that dreamer of dreams: for Jehovah your God proveth you, to know whether ye love Jehovah your God with all your heart and with all your soul.
3Then give no attention to the words of that prophet or that dreamer of dreams: for the Lord your God is testing you, to see if all the love of your heart and soul is given to him.
3— thou shalt not hearken unto the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams; for Jehovah yourGod proveth you, to know whether ye love Jehovah yourGod with all your heart and with all your soul.
4Ye shall walk after Jehovah your God, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and ye shall serve him, and cleave unto him.
4But keep on in the ways of the Lord your God, fearing him and keeping his orders and hearing his voice, worshipping him and being true to him.
4Ye shall walk after Jehovah yourGod, and ye shall fear him, and his commandments shall ye keep, and his voice shall ye hear; and ye shall serve him, and unto him shall ye cleave.
5And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death, because he hath spoken rebellion against Jehovah your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out of the house of bondage, to draw thee aside out of the way which Jehovah thy God commanded thee to walk in. So shalt thou put away the evil from the midst of thee.
5And that prophet or that dreamer of dreams is to be put to death; for his words were said with the purpose of turning you away from the Lord your God, who took you out of the land of Egypt and made you free from the prison-house; and of forcing you out of the way in which the Lord your God has given you orders to go. So you are to put away the evil from among you.
5And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; for he hath spoken revolt against Jehovah yourGod who brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, — to draw thee out of the way that Jehovah thyGod commanded thee to walk in; and thou shalt put evil away from thy midst.
6If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, that is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;
6If your brother, the son of your mother, or your son or your daughter or the wife of your heart, or the friend who is as dear to you as your life, working on you secretly says to you, Let us go and give worship to other gods, strange to you and to your fathers;
6If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, who is to thee as thy soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve othergods (whom thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;
7of the gods of the peoples that are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth;
7Gods of the peoples round about you, near or far, from one end of the earth to the other;
7of thegods of the peoples which are round about you, near unto thee, or far from thee, from one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth),
8thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him:
8Do not be guided by him or give attention to him; have no pity on him or mercy, and give him no cover;
8thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye spare him, neither shalt thou pity him, neither shalt thou screen him,
9but thou shalt surely kill him; thy hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.
9But put him to death without question; let your hand be the first stretched out against him to put him to death, and then the hands of all the people.
9but thou shalt in any case kill him: thy hand shall be the first against him to put him to death, and afterwards the hands of all the people;
10And thou shalt stone him to death with stones, because he hath sought to draw thee away from Jehovah thy God, who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.
10Let him be stoned with stones till he is dead; because it was his purpose to make you false to the Lord your God, who took you out of the land of Egypt, out of the prison-house.
10and thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; for he hath sought to draw thee away from Jehovah thyGod who brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage;
11And all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wickedness as this is in the midst of thee.
11And all Israel, hearing of it, will be full of fear, and no one will again do such evil as this among you.
11and all Israel shall hear, and fear, and shall do no more any such wicked thing as this in thy midst.
12If thou shalt hear tell concerning one of thy cities, which Jehovah thy God giveth thee to dwell there, saying,
12And if word comes to you, in one of the towns which the Lord your God is giving you for your resting-place,
12If in one of thy cities, which Jehovah thyGod hath given thee to dwell there, thou hearest, saying,
13Certain base fellows are gone out from the midst of thee, and have drawn away the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known;
13That good-for-nothing persons have gone out from among you, turning the people of their town from the right way and saying, Let us go and give worship to other gods, of whom you have no knowledge;
13There are men, children of Belial, gone out from among you, and they have drawn away the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve othergods, whom ye have not known;
14then shalt thou inquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in the midst of thee,
14Then let a full search be made, and let questions be put with care; and if it is true and certain that such a disgusting thing has been done among you;
14then shalt thou inquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and if it be truth, [and] the thing be certain, that this abomination hath happened in the midst of thee,
15thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is therein and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword.
15Then take up arms against the people of that town and give it up to the curse, with all its cattle and everything in it.
15thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, devoting it to destruction, and all that is therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword.
16And thou shalt gather all the spoil of it into the midst of the street thereof, and shalt burn with fire the city, and all the spoil thereof every whit, unto Jehovah thy God: and it shall be a heap for ever; it shall not be built again.
16And take all the goods into the middle of its open space, burning the town and all its property with fire as an offering to the Lord your God; it is to be a waste for ever; there is to be no more building there.
16And all the spoil of it shalt thou gather into the midst of the open place thereof, and shalt burn the city with fire, and all the spoil thereof, wholly to Jehovah thyGod; and it shall be a heap for ever; it shall not be built again.
17And there shall cleave nought of the devoted thing to thy hand; that Jehovah may turn from the fierceness of his anger, and show thee mercy, and have compassion upon thee, and multiply thee, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers;
17Keep not a thing of what is cursed for yourselves: so the Lord may be turned away from the heat of his wrath, and have mercy on you, and give you increase as he said in his oath to your fathers:
17And thou shalt not let anything cleave to thy hand of the devoted thing; that Jehovah may turn from the fierceness of his anger, and shew thee mercy, and have compassion upon thee, and multiply thee, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers;
18when thou shalt hearken to the voice of Jehovah thy God, to keep all his commandments which I command thee this day, to do that which is right in the eyes of Jehovah thy God.
18So long as you give ear to the voice of the Lord your God, and keep all his orders which I give you today, and do what is right in the eyes of the Lord your God.
18when thou hearkenest to the voice of Jehovah thyGod, to keep all his commandments which I command thee this day, that thou mayest do what is right in the eyes of Jehovah thyGod.
