1And working together with him we entreat also that ye receive not the grace of God in vain

1As we work together with God, we urge you not to receive his grace for no reason at all.

2(for he saith, At an acceptable time I hearkened unto thee, And in a day of salvation did I succor thee: behold, now is the acceptable time; behold, now is the day of salvation):

2God says, 'I listened to you at the right time, and I helped you on the day of salvation.' Look, now is the right time! Today is the day of salvation!

3giving no occasion of stumbling in anything, that our ministration be not blamed;

3We try not to do anything that would cause someone to stumble, so that no one can find fault with our ministry.

4but in everything commending ourselves, as ministers of God, in much patience, in afflictions, in necessities, in distresses,

4Instead, in everything we do, we show that we are true servants of God. We patiently endure great troubles, hardships, and times of distress.

5in stripes, in imprisonments, in tumults, in labors, in watchings, in fastings;

5We have been beaten, put in prison, and faced angry mobs. We have worked hard, stayed awake through the night, and gone without food.

6in pureness, in knowledge, in longsuffering, in kindness, in the Holy Spirit, in love unfeigned,

6We prove ourselves by our purity, our understanding, our patience, and our kindness. We do this through the Holy Spirit and with sincere love.

7in the word of truth, in the power of God; by the armor of righteousness on the right hand and on the left,

7We speak the truth with God's power. We carry the weapons of righteousness in both our right hand and our left.

8by glory and dishonor, by evil report and good report; as deceivers, and yet true;

8We serve God whether people honor us or despise us, and whether they praise us or insult us. We are treated as liars, even though we tell the truth.

9as unknown, and yet well known; as dying, and behold, we live; as chastened, and not killed;

9We are treated as strangers, even though we are well known. We live on the edge of death, but look, we are still alive. We have been punished, but we were not killed.

10as sorrowful, yet always rejoicing; as poor, yet making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing all things.

10We are full of sadness, yet we are always happy. We are poor, yet we make many people rich. We have nothing, yet we own everything.

11Our mouth is open unto you, O Corinthians, our heart is enlarged.

11We have spoken very honestly to you, people of Corinth, and we have opened our hearts wide to you.

12Ye are not straitened in us, but ye are straitened in your own affections.

12We are not holding back our affection from you, but you are holding back your own feelings from us.

13Now for a recompense in like kind (I speak as unto my children), be ye also enlarged.

13I am speaking to you as if you were my own children. In fair exchange, open your hearts wide to us as well.

14Be not unequally yoked with unbelievers: for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? or what communion hath light with darkness?

14Do not be tied together with people who do not believe. How can right living have anything in common with sin? How can light live with darkness?

15And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what portion hath a believer with an unbeliever?

15What harmony can there be between Christ and the devil? What does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?碎

16And what agreement hath a temple of God with idols? for we are a temple of the living God; even as God said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

16What agreement can there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God said, 'I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people.'

17Wherefore Come ye out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, And touch no unclean thing; And I will receive you,

17Therefore, the Lord says, 'Come out from among them and stay separate from them. Do not touch anything that is unclean, and I will welcome you.'

18And will be to you a Father, And ye shall be to me sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.

18'I will be a Father to you, and you will be my sons and daughters,' says the Lord Almighty.
