2 Corinthians 3

1Are we beginning again to commend ourselves? or need we, as do some, epistles of commendation to you or from you?

1Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or do we need, as some, commendatory letters to you, or [commendatory] from you?

1Do we seem to be again attempting to put ourselves in the right? or have we need, as some have, of letters of approval to you or from you?

2Ye are our epistle, written in our hearts, known and read of all men;

2Ye are our letter, written in our hearts, known and read of all men,

2You yourselves are our letter, whose writing is in our heart, open for every man's reading and knowledge;

3being made manifest that ye are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in tables of stone, but in tables that are hearts of flesh.

3being manifested to be Christ's epistle ministered by us, written, not with ink, but [the] Spirit of [the] livingGod; not on stone tables, but on fleshy tables of [the] heart.

3For you are clearly a letter of Christ, the fruit of our work, recorded not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God; not in stone, but in hearts of flesh.

4And such confidence have we through Christ to God-ward:

4And this is the certain faith which we have in God through Christ:

5not that we are sufficient of ourselves, to account anything as from ourselves; but our sufficiency is from God;

5not that we are competent of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves, but our competency [is] ofGod;

5Not as if we were able by ourselves to do anything for which we might take the credit; but our power comes from God;

6who also made us sufficient as ministers of a new covenant; not of the letter, but of the spirit: for the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth life.

6who has also made us competent, [as] ministers of [the] new covenant; not of letter, but of spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit quickens.

6Who has made us able to be servants of a new agreement; not of the letter, but of the Spirit: for the letter gives death, but the Spirit gives life.

7But if the ministration of death, written, and engraven on stones, came with glory, so that the children of Israel could not look stedfastly upon the face of Moses for the glory of his face; which glory was passing away:

7(But if the ministry of death, in letters, graven in stones, began with glory, so that the children of Israel could not fix their eyes on the face of Moses, on account of the glory of his face, [a glory] which is annulled;

7For if the operation of the law, giving death, recorded in letters on stone, came with glory, so that the eyes of the children of Israel had to be turned away from the face of Moses because of its glory, a glory which was only for a time:

8how shall not rather the ministration of the spirit be with glory?

8how shall not rather the ministry of the Spirit subsist in glory?

8Will not the operation of the Spirit have a much greater glory?

9For if the ministration of condemnation hath glory, much rather doth the ministration of righteousness exceed in glory.

9For if the ministry of condemnation [be] glory, much rather the ministry of righteousness abounds in glory.

9For if the operation of the law, producing punishment, had its glory, how much greater will be the operation of the Spirit causing righteousness?

10For verily that which hath been made glorious hath not been made glorious in this respect, by reason of the glory that surpasseth.

10For also that [which was] glorified is not glorified in this respect, on account of the surpassing glory.

10For the glory of the first no longer seems to be glory, because of the greater glory of that which comes after.

11For if that which passeth away was with glory, much more that which remaineth is in glory.

11For if that annulled [was introduced] with glory, much rather that which abides [subsists] in glory.

11For if the order which was for a time had its glory, much more will the eternal order have its glory.

12Having therefore such a hope, we use great boldness of speech,

13andarenot as Moses, whoput a veil upon his face, that the children of Israel should not look stedfastly on the end of that which was passing away:

13and not according as Moses put a veil on his own face, so that the children of Israel should not fix their eyes on the end of that annulled.

13And are not like Moses, who put a veil on his face, so that the children of Israel might not see clearly to the end of the present order of things:

14but their minds were hardened: for until this very day at the reading of the old covenant the same veil remaineth, it not being revealed to them that it is done away in Christ.

14But their thoughts have been darkened, for unto this day the same veil remains in reading the old covenant, unremoved, which in Christ is annulled.

14But their minds were made hard: for to this very day at the reading of the old agreement the same veil is still unlifted; though it is taken away in Christ.

15But unto this day, whensoever Moses is read, a veil lieth upon their heart.

16But whensoever it shall turn to the Lord, the veil is taken away.

17Now the Lord is the Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

17Now the Lord is the Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there the heart is free.

18But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord the Spirit.

18But we all, looking on the glory of the Lord, with unveiled face, are transformed according to the same image from glory to glory, even as by [the] Lord [the] Spirit.

18But we all, with unveiled face giving back as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as from the Lord who is the Spirit.
