2 Corinthians 3

1Do we begin again to commend ourselves? or do we need, as some, commendatory letters to you, or [commendatory] from you?

1Do we begin again to commend ourselves? Or do we need (as some do) epistles of commendation to you, or from you?

1Do we begin again to recommend ourselves, except we need, as some, letters of recommendation unto you, or from you?

2Ye are our letter, written in our hearts, known and read of all men,

2You are our epistle, written in our hearts, which is known and read by all men:

2our letter ye are, having been written in our hearts, known and read by all men,

3being manifested to be Christ's epistle ministered by us, written, not with ink, but [the] Spirit of [the] livingGod; not on stone tables, but on fleshy tables of [the] heart.

3Being manifested, that you are the epistle of Christ, ministered by us, and written: not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God: not in tables of stone but in the fleshly tables of the heart.

3manifested that ye are a letter of Christ ministered by us, written not with ink, but with the Spirit of the living God, not in the tablets of stone, but in fleshy tablets of the heart,

4And such confidence have we through the Christ towardsGod:

4And such confidence we have, through Christ, towards God.

4and such trust we have through the Christ toward God,

5not that we are competent of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves, but our competency [is] ofGod;

5Not that we are sufficient to think any thing of ourselves, as of ourselves: but our sufficiency is from God.

5not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything, as of ourselves, but our sufficiency <FI>is<Fi> of God,

6who has also made us competent, [as] ministers of [the] new covenant; not of letter, but of spirit. For the letter kills, but the Spirit quickens.

6Who also hath made us fit ministers of the new testament, not in the letter but in the spirit. For the letter killeth: but the spirit quickeneth.

6who also made us sufficient <FI>to be<Fi> ministrants of a new covenant, not of letter, but of spirit; for the letter doth kill, and the spirit doth make alive.

7(But if the ministry of death, in letters, graven in stones, began with glory, so that the children of Israel could not fix their eyes on the face of Moses, on account of the glory of his face, [a glory] which is annulled;

7Now if the ministration of death, engraven with letters upon stones, was glorious (so that the children of Israel could not steadfastly behold the face of Moses, for the glory of his countenance), which is made void:

7and if the ministration of the death, in letters, engraved in stones, came in glory, so that the sons of Israel were not able to look stedfastly to the face of Moses, because of the glory of his face--which was being made useless,

8how shall not rather the ministry of the Spirit subsist in glory?

8How shall not the ministration of the spirit be rather in glory?

8how shall the ministration of the Spirit not be more in glory?

9For if the ministry of condemnation [be] glory, much rather the ministry of righteousness abounds in glory.

9For if the ministration of condemnation be glory, much more the ministration of justice aboundeth in glory.

9for if the ministration of the condemnation <FI>is<Fi> glory, much more doth the ministration of the righteousness abound in glory;

10For also that [which was] glorified is not glorified in this respect, on account of the surpassing glory.

10For even that which was glorious in this part was not glorified by reason of the glory that excelleth.

10for also even that which hath been glorious, hath not been glorious--in this respect, because of the superior glory;

11For if that annulled [was introduced] with glory, much rather that which abides [subsists] in glory.

11For if that which is done away was glorious, much more that which remaineth is in glory.

11for if that which is being made useless <FI>is<Fi> through glory, much more that which is remaining <FI>is<Fi> in glory.

12Having therefore such hope, we use much boldness:

12Having, then, such hope, we use much freedom of speech,

13and not according as Moses put a veil on his own face, so that the children of Israel should not fix their eyes on the end of that annulled.

13And not as Moses put a veil upon his face, that the children of Israel might not steadfastly look on the face of that which is made void.

13and <FI>are<Fi> not as Moses, who was putting a vail upon his own face, for the sons of Israel not stedfastly to look to the end of that which is being made useless,

14But their thoughts have been darkened, for unto this day the same veil remains in reading the old covenant, unremoved, which in Christ is annulled.

14But their senses were made dull. For, until this present day, the selfsame veil, in the reading of the old testament, remaineth not taken away (because in Christ it is made void).

14but their minds were hardened, for unto this day the same vail at the reading of the Old Covenant doth remain unwithdrawn--which in Christ is being made useless--

15But unto this day, when Moses is read, the veil lies upon their heart.

15But even until this day, when Moses is read, the veil is upon their heart.

15but till to-day, when Moses is read, a vail upon their heart doth lie,

16But when it shall turn to [the] Lord, the veil is taken away.)

16But when they shall be converted to the Lord, the veil shall be taken away.

16and whenever they may turn unto the Lord, the vail is taken away.

17Now the Lord is the Spirit, but where the Spirit of [the] Lord [is, there is] liberty.

17Now the Lord is a Spirit. And where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.

17And the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord <FI>is<Fi> , there <FI>is<Fi> liberty;

18But we all, looking on the glory of the Lord, with unveiled face, are transformed according to the same image from glory to glory, even as by [the] Lord [the] Spirit.

18But we all, beholding the glory of the Lord with open face, are transformed into the same image from glory to glory, as by the Spirit of the Lord.

18and we all, with unvailed face, the glory of the Lord beholding in a mirror, to the same image are being transformed, from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.
