1Then Solomon began to build the house of Jehovah at Jerusalem on mount Moriah, whereJehovahappeared unto David his father, which he made ready in the place that David had appointed, in the threshing-floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

1Then Solomon began to build the temple of the LORD in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah. This was the place where the LORD had appeared to his father David, on the site David had prepared at the threshing floor of Ornan the Jebusite.

2And he began to build in the second day of the second month, in the fourth year of his reign.

3Now these are the foundations which Solomon laid for the building of the house of God. The length by cubits after the first measure was threescore cubits, and the breadth twenty cubits.

3These are the measurements Solomon used for the foundation of God’s temple. Using the old standard of measurement, the length was ninety feet and the width was thirty feet.

4And the porch that was before the house, the length of it, according to the breadth of the house, was twenty cubits, and the height a hundred and twenty; and he overlaid it within with pure gold.

4The entrance room at the front of the main building was thirty feet wide, matching the width of the temple. It was one hundred eighty feet high, and he covered the inside of it with pure gold.

5And the greater house he ceiled with fir-wood, which he overlaid with fine gold, and wrought thereon palm-trees and chains.

5He paneled the main room with pine and covered it with fine gold, decorating it with designs of palm trees and chains.

6And he garnished the house with precious stones for beauty: and the gold was gold of Parvaim.

7He overlaid also the house, the beams, the thresholds, and the walls thereof, and the doors thereof, with gold; and graved cherubim on the walls.

7He overlaid the entire temple with gold—the beams, the doorframes, the walls, and the doors—and he carved figures of winged creatures called cherubim on the walls.

8And he made the most holy house: the length thereof, according to the breadth of the house, was twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty cubits; and he overlaid it with fine gold, amounting to six hundred talents.

8He built the Most Holy Place. Its length was thirty feet, matching the width of the main building, and its width was also thirty feet. He covered its walls with about forty-five thousand pounds of fine gold.

9And the weight of the nails was fifty shekels of gold. And he overlaid the upper chambers with gold.

9The gold nails weighed about one and a quarter pounds. He also covered the upper rooms with gold.

10And in the most holy house he made two cherubim of image work; and they overlaid them with gold.

10Inside the Most Holy Place, he made two statues of cherubim and covered them with gold.

11And the wings of the cherubim were twenty cubits long: the wing of the one cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house; and the other wing was likewise five cubits, reaching to the wing of the other cherub.

11The total wingspan of the two cherubim was thirty feet. One wing of the first cherub was seven and a half feet long and touched the temple wall, while its other wing was also seven and a half feet long and touched the wing of the second cherub.

12And the wing of the other cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house; and the other wing was five cubits also, joining to the wing of the other cherub.

12Similarly, one wing of the second cherub was seven and a half feet long and touched the opposite temple wall, while its other wing was seven and a half feet long and touched the wing of the first cherub.

13The wings of these cherubim spread themselves forth twenty cubits: and they stood on their feet, and their faces were toward the house.

13The wings of these cherubim spread out thirty feet. They stood on their feet, facing toward the main room.

14And he made the veil of blue, and purple, and crimson, and fine linen, and wrought cherubim thereon.

14He made the curtain of blue, purple, and scarlet thread and fine linen, with cherubim worked into the design.

15Also he made before the house two pillars of thirty and five cubits high, and the capital that was on the top of each of them was five cubits.

15In front of the temple, he built two pillars that were fifty-two and a half feet tall, with a cap on top of each one measuring seven and a half feet.

16And he made chains in the oracle, and put them on the tops of the pillars; and he made a hundred pomegranates, and put them on the chains.

16He made interlaced chains like those in the inner sanctuary and put them on top of the pillars. He also made one hundred pomegranate shapes and attached them to the chains.

17And he set up the pillars before the temple, one on the right hand, and the other on the left; and called the name of that on the right hand Jachin, and the name of that on the left Boaz.

17He set up the pillars in front of the temple, one on the south and one on the north. He named the one on the south Jachin and the one on the north Boaz.
