1And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against Israel.
1And Jehoshaphat his son reigneth in his stead, and he strengtheneth himself against Israel,
1And Jehoshaphat his son became king in his place, and made himself strong against Israel.
2And he placed forces in all the fenced cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.
2and putteth a force in all the fenced cities of Judah, and putteth garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim that Asa his father had captured.
2He put forces in all the walled towns of Judah, and responsible chiefs in the land of Judah and in the towns of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.
3And the Lord was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto Baalim;
3And Jehovah is with Jehoshaphat, for he hath walked in the first ways of David his father, and hath not sought to Baalim,
3And the Lord was with Jehoshaphat, because he went in the early ways of his father, not turning to the Baals,
4But sought to the Lord God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel.
4for to the God of his father he hath sought, and in His commands he hath walked, and not according to the work of Israel.
4But turning to the God of his father and keeping his laws, and not doing as Israel did.
5Therefore the Lord stablished the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah brought to Jehoshaphat presents; and he had riches and honour in abundance.
5And Jehovah doth establish the kingdom in his hand, and all Judah give a present to Jehoshaphat, and he hath riches and honour in abundance,
5So the Lord made his kingdom strong; and all Judah gave offerings to Jehoshaphat, and he had great wealth and honour.
6And his heart was lifted up in the ways of the Lord: moreover he took away the high places and groves out of Judah.
6and his heart is high in the ways of Jehovah, and again he hath turned aside the high places and the shrines out of Judah.
6His heart was lifted up in the ways of the Lord; and he went so far as to take away the high places and the wood pillars out of Judah.
7Also in the third year of his reign he sent to his princes, even to Ben–hail, and to Obadiah, and to Zechariah, and to Nethaneel, and to Michaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah.
7And in the third year of his reign he hath sent for his heads, for Ben-Hail, and for Obadiah, and for Zechariah, and for Nethaneel, and for Michaiah, to teach in cities of Judah,
7In the third year of his rule he sent Benhail and Obadiah and Zechariah and Nethanel and Micaiah, his captains, as teachers into the towns of Judah;
8And with them he sent Levites, even Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tob–adonijah, Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, priests.
8and with them the Levites, Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijath, and Tob-Adonijah, the Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, the priests.
8And with them, Shemaiah and Nethaniah and Zebadiah and Asahel and Shemiramoth and Jehonathan and Adonijah and Tobijah and Tob-adonijah, the Levites; and Elishama and Jehoram the priests.
9And they taught in Judah, and had the book of the law of the Lord with them, and went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.
9And they teach in Judah, and with them <FI>is<Fi> the Book of the Law of Jehovah, and they go round about into all cities of Judah, and teach among the people.
9And they gave teaching in Judah and had the book of the law of the Lord with them; they went through all the towns of Judah teaching the people.
10And the fear of the Lord fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that were round about Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.
10And here is a fear of Jehovah on all kingdoms of the lands that <FI>are<Fi> round about Judah, and they have not fought with Jehoshaphat;
10And the fear of the Lord was on all the kingdoms of the lands round Judah, so that they made no wars against Jehoshaphat.
11Also some of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents, and tribute silver; and the Arabians brought him flocks, seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred he goats.
11and of the Philistines they are bringing in to Jehoshaphat a present, and tribute silver; also, the Arabians are bringing to him a flock, rams seven thousand an seven hundred, and he-goats seven thousand and seven hundred.
11And some of the Philistines took offerings to Jehoshaphat, and made him payments of silver; and the Arabians gave him flocks, seven thousand, seven hundred sheep, and seven thousand, seven hundred he-goats.
12And Jehoshaphat waxed great exceedingly; and he built in Judah castles, and cities of store.
12And Jehoshaphat is going on and becoming very great, and he buildeth in Judah palaces and cities of store,
12Jehoshaphat became greater and greater, and made strong towers and store-towns in Judah.
13And he had much business in the cities of Judah: and the men of war, mighty men of valour, were in Jerusalem.
13and he hath much work in cities of Judah; and men of war, mighty of valour, <FI>are<Fi> in Jerusalem.
13He had much property in the towns of Judah; he had forces of armed men, great and strong, in Jerusalem.
14And these are the numbers of them according to the house of their fathers: Of Judah, the captains of thousands; Adnah the chief, and with him mighty men of valour three hundred thousand.
14And these <FI>are<Fi> their numbers, for the house of their fathers: Of Judah, heads of thousands, Adnah the head, and with him mighty ones of valour, three hundred chiefs.
14This is the number of them, listed by their families, the captains of thousands of Judah: Adnah, the captain, and with him three hundred thousand men of war;
15And next to him was Jehohanan the captain, and with him two hundred and fourscore thousand.
15And at his hand <FI>is<Fi> Jehohanan the head, and with him two hundred and eighty chiefs.
15Second to him Jehohanan, the captain, and with him two hundred and eighty thousand;
16And next him was Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself unto the Lord; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valour.
16And at his hand <FI>is<Fi> Amasiah son of Zichri, who is willingly offering himself to Jehovah, and with him two hundred chiefs, mighty of valour.
16After him Amasiah, the son of Zichri, who freely gave himself to the Lord, and with him two hundred thousand men of war;
17And of Benjamin; Eliada a mighty man of valour, and with him armed men with bow and shield two hundred thousand.
17And of Benjamin: mighty of valour, Eliada, and with him, armed with bow and shield, two hundred chiefs.
17And the captains of Benjamin: Eliada, a great man of war, and with him two hundred thousand armed with bows and body-covers;
18And next him was Jehozabad, and with him an hundred and fourscore thousand ready prepared for the war.
18And at his hand <FI>is<Fi> Jehozabad, and with him a hundred and eighty chiefs, armed ones of the host.
18And after him Jehozabad, and with him a hundred and eighty thousand trained for war.
19These waited on the king, beside those whom the king put in the fenced cities throughout all Judah.
19These <FI>are<Fi> those serving the king, apart from those whom the king put in the cities of fortress, in all Judah.
19These were the men who were waiting on the king, in addition to those placed by the king in the walled towns through all Judah.
