2 Chronicles 12

1And it cometh to pass, at the establishing of the kingdom of Rehoboam, and at his strengthening himself, he hath forsaken the law of Jehovah, and all Israel with him.

1Now when Rehoboam's position as king had been made certain, and he was strong, he gave up the law of the Lord, and all Israel with him.

1And when the kingdom of Roboam was strengthened and fortified, he forsook the law of the Lord, and all Israel with him.

2And it cometh to pass, in the fifth year of king Rehoboam, come up hath Shishak king of Egypt against Jerusalem--because they trespassed against Jehovah--

2Now in the fifth year of King Rehoboam, Shishak, king of Egypt, came up against Jerusalem, because of their sin against the Lord,

2And in the fifth year of the reign of Roboam, Sesac king of Egypt came up against Jerusalem (because they had sinned against the Lord)

3with a thousand and two hundred chariots, and with sixty thousand horsemen, and there is no number to the people who have come with him out of Egypt--Lubim, Sukkiim, and Cushim--

3With twelve hundred war-carriages and sixty thousand horsemen: and the people who came with him out of Egypt were more than might be numbered: Lubim and Sukkiim and Ethiopians.

3With twelve hundred chariots and threescore thousand horsemen: and the people were without number that came with him out of Egypt, to wit, Libyans, and Troglodites, and Ethiopians.

4and he captureth the cities of the bulwarks that <FI>are<Fi> to Judah, and cometh in unto Jerusalem.

4And he took the walled towns of Judah, and came as far as Jerusalem.

4And he took the strongest cities in Juda, and came to Jerusalem.

5And Shemaiah the prophet hath come in unto Rehoboam and the heads of Judah who have been gathered unto Jerusalem from the presence of Shishak, and saith to them, `Thus said Jehovah, Ye have forsaken Me, and also, I have left you in the hand of Shishak;'

5Now Shemaiah the prophet came to Rehoboam and the chiefs of Judah, who had come together in Jerusalem because of Shishak, and said to them, The Lord has said, Because you have given me up, I have given you up into the hands of Shishak.

5And Semeias the prophet came to Roboam, and to the princes of Juda, that were gathered together in Jerusalem, fleeing from Sesac, and he said to them: Thus saith the Lord: You have left me, and I have left you in the hand of Sesac.

6and the heads of Israel are humbled, and the king, and they say, `Righteous <FI>is<Fi> Jehovah.'

6Then the chiefs of Israel and the king made themselves low and said, The Lord is upright.

6And the princes of Israel, and the king, being in a consternation, said: The Lord is just.

7And when Jehovah seeth that they have been humbled, a word of Jehovah hath been unto Shemaiah, saying, `They have been humbled; I do not destroy them, and I have given to them as a little thing for an escape, and I pour not out My fury in Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak;

7And the Lord, seeing that they had made themselves low, said to Shemaiah, They have made themselves low: I will not send destruction on them, but in a short time I will give them salvation, and will not let loose my wrath on Jerusalem by the hand of Shishak.

7And when the Lord saw that they were humbled, the word of the Lord came to Semeias, saying: Because they are humbled, I will not destroy them, and I will give them a little help, and my wrath shall not fall upon Jerusalem by the hand of Sesac.

8but they become servants to him, and they know My service, and the service of the kingdoms of the lands.'

8But still they will become his servants, so that they may see how different my yoke is from the yoke of the kingdoms of the lands.

8But yet they shall serve him, that they may know the difference between my service, and the service of a kingdom of the earth.

9And Shishak king of Egypt cometh up against Jerusalem, and taketh the treasures of the house of Jehovah, and the treasures of the house of the king--the whole he hath taken--and he taketh the shields of gold that Solomon had made;

9So Shishak, king of Egypt, came up against Jerusalem and took away all the stored wealth of the house of the Lord and the king's house: he took everything away, and with the rest the gold body-covers which Solomon had made.

9So Sesac king of Egypt departed from Jerusalem, taking away the treasures of the king's house, and he took all with him, and the golden shields that Solomon had made,

10and king Rehoboam maketh in their stead shields of brass, and hath given <FI>them<Fi> a charge on the hand of the heads of the runners who are keeping the opening of the house of the king;

10And in their place King Rehoboam had other body-covers made of brass and gave them into the care of the captains of the armed men who were stationed at the door of the king's house.

10Instead of which the king made brazen ones, and delivered them to the captains of the shieldbearers, who guarded the entrance of the palace.

11and it cometh to pass, from the time of the going in of the king to the house of Jehovah, the runners have come in and lifted them up, and brought them back unto the chamber of the runners.

11And whenever the king went into the house of the Lord, the armed men went with him taking the body-covers, and then took them back to their room.

11And when the king entered into the house of the Lord, the shieldbearers came and took them, and brought them back again to their armoury.

12And in his being humbled, turned back from him hath the wrath of Jehovah, so as not to destroy to completion; and also, in Judah there have been good things.

12And when he made himself low, the wrath of the Lord was turned back from him, and complete destruction did not come on him, for there was still some good in Judah.

12But yet because they were humbled, the wrath of the Lord turned away from them, and they were not utterly destroyed: for even in Juda there were found good works.

13And king Rehoboam strengtheneth himself in Jerusalem, and reigneth; for a son of forty and two years <FI>is<Fi> Rehoboam in his reigning, and seventeen years he hath reigned in Jerusalem, the city that Jehovah hath chosen to put His name there, out of all the tribes of Israel, and the name of his mother <FI>is<Fi> Naamah the Ammonitess,

13So King Rehoboam made himself strong in Jerusalem and was ruling there. Rehoboam was forty-one years old when he became king, and he was ruling for seventeen years in Jerusalem, the town which the Lord had made his out of all the tribes of Israel, to put his name there; and his mother's name was Naamah, an Ammonite woman.

13King Roboam therefore was strengthened in Jerusalem, and reigned: he was one and forty years old when he began to reign, and he reigned seventeen years in Jerusalem, the city which the Lord chose out of all the tribes of Israel, to establish his name there: and the name of his mother was Naama an Ammonitess.

14and he doth the evil thing, for he hath not prepared his heart to seek Jehovah.

14And he did evil because his heart was not true to the Lord.

14But he did evil, and did not prepare his heart to seek the Lord.

15And the matters of Rehoboam, the first and the last, are they not written among the matters of Shemaiah the prophet, and of Iddo the seer, concerning genealogy? And the wars of Rehoboam and Jeroboam <FI>are<Fi> all the days;

15Now the acts of Rehoboam, first and last, are they not recorded in the words of Shemaiah the prophet and Iddo the seer? And there were wars between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all their days.

15Now the acts of Roboam first and last are written in the books of Semeias the prophet, and of Addo the seer, and diligently recorded: and there was war between Roboam and Jeroboam all their days.

16and Rehoboam lieth with his fathers, and is buried in the city of David, and reign doth Abijah his son in his stead.

16And Rehoboam went to rest with his fathers, and was put into the earth in the town of David; and Abijah his son became king in his place.

16And Roboam slept with his fathers, and was buried in the city of David. And Abia his son reigned in his stead.
