1Now the Spirit manifestly saith that in the last times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to spirits of error and doctrines of devils,
1And the Spirit expressly speaketh, that in latter times shall certain fall away from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits and teachings of demons,
1But the Spirit says clearly that in later times some will be turned away from the faith, giving their minds to spirits of deceit, and the teachings of evil spirits,
2Speaking lies in hypocrisy and having their conscience seared,
2in hypocrisy speaking lies, being seared in their own conscience,
2Through the false ways of men whose words are untrue, whose hearts are burned as with a heated iron;
3Forbidding to marry, to abstain from meats, which God hath created to be received with thanksgiving by the faithful and by them that have known the truth.
3forbidding to marry--to abstain from meats that God created to be received with thanksgiving by those believing and acknowledging the truth,
3Who keep men from being married and from taking food which God made to be taken with praise by those who have faith and true knowledge.
4For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be rejected that is received with thanksgiving:
4because every creature of God <FI>is<Fi> good, and nothing <FI>is<Fi> to be rejected, with thanksgiving being received,
4Because everything which God has made is good, and nothing is evil, if it is taken with praise:
5For it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
5for it is sanctified through the word of God and intercession.
5For it is made holy by the word of God and by prayer.
6These things proposing to the brethren, thou shalt be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished up in the words of faith and of the good doctrine which thou hast attained unto.
6These things placing before the brethren, thou shalt be a good ministrant of Jesus Christ, being nourished by the words of the faith, and of the good teaching, which thou didst follow after,
6If you keep these things before the minds of the brothers, you will be a good servant of Christ Jesus, trained in the words of the faith and of the right teaching which has been your guide:
7But avoid foolish and old wives fables: and exercise thyself unto godliness.
7and the profane and old women's fables reject thou, and exercise thyself unto piety,
7But have nothing to do with unclean and foolish stories. Give yourself training in religion:
8For bodily exercise is profitable to little: but godliness is profitable to all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.
8for the bodily exercise is unto little profit, and the piety is to all things profitable, a promise having of the life that now is, and of that which is coming;
8For the training of the body is of profit for a little, but religion is of profit in every way, giving hope for the life which now is, and for that which is to come.
9A faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.
9stedfast <FI>is<Fi> the word, and of all acceptation worthy;
9This is a true saying, in which all may put their faith.
10For therefore we labour and are reviled, because we hope in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, especially of the faithful.
10for for this we both labour and are reproached, because we hope on the living God, who is Saviour of all men--especially of those believing.
10And this is the purpose of all our work and our fighting, because our hope is in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, and specially of those who have faith.
11These things command and teach:
11Charge these things, and teach;
11Let these be your orders and your teaching.
12Let no man despise thy youth: but be thou an example of the faithful, in word, in conversation, in charity, in faith, in chastity.
12let no one despise thy youth, but a pattern become thou of those believing in word, in behaviour, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity;
12Let no one make little of you because you are young, but be an example to the church in word, in behaviour, in love, in faith, in holy living.
13Till I come, attend unto reading, to exhortation and to doctrine.
13till I come, give heed to the reading, to the exhortation, to the teaching;
13Till I come, give attention to the reading of the holy Writings, to comforting the saints, and to teaching.
14Neglect not the grace that is in thee, which was given thee by prophecy, with imposition of the hands of the priesthood.
14be not careless of the gift in thee, that was given thee through prophecy, with laying on of the hands of the eldership;
14Make use of that grace in you, which was given to you by the word of the prophets, when the rulers of the church put their hands on you.
15Meditate upon these things, be wholly in these things: that thy profiting may be manifest to all.
15of these things be careful; in these things be, that thy advancement may be manifest in all things;
15Have a care for these things; give yourself to them with all your heart, so that all may see how you go forward.
16Take heed to thyself and to doctrine: be earnest in them. For in doing this thou shalt both save thyself and them that hear thee.
16take heed to thyself, and to the teaching; remain in them, for this thing doing, both thyself thou shalt save, and those hearing thee.
16Give attention to yourself and your teaching. Go on in these things; for in doing so you will get salvation for yourself and for those who give hearing to you.
