What 1 Peter 2:22 means
Christ “did no sin, neither was guile found in his mouth.” His innocence is complete—He never acted wickedly and never spoke deceitfully. This highlights the injustice of His sufferings and the perfection of His obedience. Especially under provocation, the tongue reveals the heart; yet His speech remained pure. The portrayal draws on prophetic testimony and sets a standard for believers’ own speech amid trials. Our Redeemer’s blamelessness qualifies Him both to be our atoning substitute and our pattern, showing that holiness is not undone by hostility but can be displayed most brightly in it.

Context
Verse 22 substantiates the claim of verse 21 by stressing Christ’s sinlessness, particularly in words. Verse 23 will move from character to conduct, showing His restraint under abuse and His trust in God’s justice. This prepares for verse 24’s declaration of atoning purpose. The sequence strengthens the appeal to suffer well: Jesus was innocent, patient, and purposeful in pain; His followers are called into that same pattern through union with Him.
