1And I, having come unto you, brethren, came--not in superiority of discourse or wisdom--declaring to you the testimony of God,
1And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not in loftiness of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of Christ.
2for I decided not to know any thing among you, except Jesus Christ, and him crucified;
2For I judged not myself to know anything among you, but Jesus Christ: and him crucified.
3and I, in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling, was with you;
3And I was with you in weakness and in fear and in much trembling.
4and my word and my preaching was not in persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power--
4And my speech and my preaching was not in the persuasive words of human wisdom. but in shewing of the Spirit and power:
5that your faith may not be in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.
5That your faith might not stand on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God.
6And wisdom we speak among the perfect, and wisdom not of this age, nor of the rulers of this age--of those becoming useless,
6Howbeit we speak wisdom among the perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, neither of the princes of this world that come to nought.
7but we speak the hidden wisdom of God in a secret, that God foreordained before the ages to our glory,
7But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, a wisdom which is hidden, which God ordained before the world, unto our glory:
8which no one of the rulers of this age did know, for if they had known, the Lord of the glory they would not have crucified;
8Which none of the princes of this world knew. For if they had known it, they would never have crucified the Lord of glory.
9but, according as it hath been written, `What eye did not see, and ear did not hear, and upon the heart of man came not up, what God did prepare for those loving Him--'
9But, as it is written: That eye hath not seen, nor ear heard: neither hath it entered into the heart of man, what things God hath prepared for them that love him.
10but to us did God reveal <FI>them<Fi> through His Spirit, for the Spirit all things doth search, even the depths of God,
10But to us God hath revealed them by his Spirit. For the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.
11for who of men hath known the things of the man, except the spirit of the man that <FI>is<Fi> in him? so also the things of God no one hath known, except the Spirit of God.
11For what man knoweth the things of a man, but the spirit of a man that is in him? So the things also that are of God, no man knoweth, but the Spirit of God.
12And we the spirit of the world did not receive, but the Spirit that <FI>is<Fi> of God, that we may know the things conferred by God on us,
12Now, we have received not the spirit of this world, but the Spirit that is of God: that we may know the things that are given us from God.
13which things also we speak, not in words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Holy Spirit, with spiritual things spiritual things comparing,
13Which things also we speak: not in the learned words of human wisdom, but in the doctrine of the Spirit, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
14and the natural man doth not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for to him they are foolishness, and he is not able to know <FI>them<Fi> , because spiritually they are discerned;
14But the sensual man perceiveth not these things that are of the Spirit of God. For it is foolishness to him: and he cannot understand, because it is spiritually examined.
