What 1 Corinthians 15:57 means

Paul bursts into thanks to God, who gives believers victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. The triumph over sin, law, and death is not self-achieved; it is God’s gift, mediated by the crucified and risen Savior. Gratitude crowns doctrine. The gospel’s promises are not abstract; God actively confers victory on His people as they are united to Christ. This verse centers praise where it belongs and turns the church’s gaze to Jesus as the personal means of all hope. The Christian life is therefore lived in thankful confidence, expecting God to complete what He has begun.

Context

Following the explanation of death’s sting (v. 56), Paul offers thanksgiving for victory through Christ (v. 57). This is the theological summit before the practical exhortation of v. 58. The flow moves from proclamation to application: because God gives such victory, believers should live steadfast, fruitful lives, confident their labor is not empty.

v.56The sting of death is sin; and the power of sin is the law:

v.57This passage

v.58Wherefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labor is not vain in the Lord.
