1Now the children of Israel after their number, to wit, the heads of fathers’housesand the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and their officers that served the king, in any matter of the courses which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year—of every course were twenty and four thousand.

1And the sons of Israel, after their number, heads of the fathers, and princes of the thousands and of the hundreds, and their officers, those serving the king in any matter of the courses, that are coming in and going out month by month, throughout all months of the year--<FI> are<Fi> in each course twenty and four thousand.

1Now the number of the children of Israel, that is, the heads of families, and the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and the men in authority who were servants of the king in anything to do with the divisions which came in and went out month by month through all the months of the year, in every division were twenty-four thousand.

2Over the first course for the first month was Jashobeam the son of Zabdiel: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.

6This is that Benaiah, who was the mighty man of the thirty, and over the thirty: and of his course was Ammizabad his son.

24The numbering was started by Joab, the son of Zeruiah, but he did not go on to the end; and because of it, wrath came on Israel and the number was not recorded in the history of King David.

25And over the king’s treasures was Azmaveth the son of Adiel: and over the treasures in the fields, in the cities, and in the villages, and in the castles, was Jonathan the son of Uzziah:

25And over the treasures of the king <FI>is<Fi> Azmaveth son of Adiel; and over the treasures in the field, in the cities, and in the villages, and in the towers, <FI>is<Fi> Jehonathan son of Uzziah;

26and over them that did the work of the field for tillage of the ground was Ezri the son of Chelub:

27Shimei the Ramathite was responsible for the vine-gardens; Zabdi the Shiphmite was responsible for the produce of the vine-gardens and for all the stores of wine;

28and over the olive-trees and the sycomore-trees that were in the lowland was Baal-hanan the Gederite: and over the cellars of oil was Joash:

28and over the olives, and the sycamores, that <FI>are<Fi> in the low country, <FI>is<Fi> Baal-Hanan the Gederite; and over the treasures of oil <FI>is<Fi> Joash;

28Baal-hanan the Gederite was responsible for the olive-trees and the sycamore-trees in the lowlands; and Joash for the stores of oil;

29and over the herds that fed in Sharon was Shitrai the Sharonite: and over the herds that were in the valleys was Shaphat the son of Adlai:

29and over the herds that are feeding in Sharon <FI>is<Fi> Shitrai the Sharonite; and over the herds in the valleys <FI>is<Fi> Shaphat son of Adlai;

29And Shitrai the Sharonite was responsible for the herds in the grass-lands of Sharon, and Shaphat, the son of Adlai, for those in the valleys;

30and over the camels was Obil the Ishmaelite: and over the asses was Jehdeiah the Meronothite: and over the flocks was Jaziz the Hagrite.

30and over the camels <FI>is<Fi> Obil the Ishmeelite; and over the asses <FI>is<Fi> Jehdeiah the Meronothite;

30Obil the Ishmaelite had control of the camels and Jehdeiah the Meronothite of the she-asses;

31All these were the rulers of the substance which was king David’s.

31and over the flock <FI>is<Fi> Jaziz the Hagerite; all these <FI>are<Fi> heads of the substance that king David hath.

31The flocks were in the care of Jaziz the Hagarite. All these were the controllers of King David's property.

32Also Jonathan, David’s uncle, was a counsellor, a man of understanding, and a scribe: and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni was with the king’s sons:

32And Jonathan, uncle of David, <FI>is<Fi> counsellor, a man of understanding, he is also a scribe; and Jehiel son of Hachmoni <FI>is<Fi> with the sons of the king;

32Now Jonathan, David's father's brother, expert in discussion, and a man of good sense, was a scribe; and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni, had the care of the king's sons;

33and Ahithophel was the king’s counsellor: and Hushai the Archite was the king’s friend:

33And Ahithophel was the king's expert in discussion and Hushai the Archite was the king's friend.

34and after Ahithophel was Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar: and the captain of the king’s host was Joab.
