1 Chronicles 24

1Now these were the divisions of the sons of Aaron: The sons of Aaron: Nadab, and Abiu, and Eleazar, and Ithamar.

1Now the divisions into which the sons of Aaron were grouped were these: the sons of Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

2But Nadab and Abiu died before their father, and had no children: so Eleazar, and Ithamar did the office of the priesthood.

2But Nadab and Abihu came to their end before their father, and had no children; so Eleazar and Ithamar did the work of priests.

3And David distributed them, that is, Sadoc of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, according to their courses and ministry.

3And David, with Zadok of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar, made distribution of them into their positions for their work.

4And there were found many more of the sons of Eleazar among the principal men, than of the sons of Ithamar. And he divided them so, that there were of the sons of Eleazar, sixteen chief men by their families: and of the sons of Ithamar eight by their families and houses.

4And there were more chiefs among the sons of Eleazar than among the sons of Ithamar; and this is how they were grouped: of the sons of Eleazar there were sixteen, all heads of families; and of the sons of Ithamar, heads of families, there were eight.

5And he divided both the families one with the other by lot: for there were princes of the sanctuary, and princes of God, both of the sons of Eleazar, and of the sons of Ithamar.

5So they were put into groups, by the Lord's decision, one with another; for there were rulers of the holy place and rulers of the house of God among the sons of Eleazar and the sons of Ithamar.

6And Semeias the son of Nathanael the scribe a Levite, wrote them down before the king and the princes, and Sadoc the priest, and Ahimelech the son of Abiathar, and the princes also of the priestly and Levitical families: one house, which was over the rest, of Eleazar: and another house, which had the rest under it, of Ithamar.

6And Shemaiah, the son of Nethanel the scribe, who was a Levite, put down their names in writing, the king being present with the rulers, and Zadok the priest, and Ahimelech, the son of Abiathar, and the heads of families of the priests and the Levites; one family being taken for Eleazar and then one for Ithamar, and so on.

7Now the first lot came forth to Joiarib, the second to Jedei,

13The thirteenth to Hoppha, the fourteenth to Isbaab,

13The thirteenth Huppah, the fourteenth Jeshebeab,

14The fifteenth to Belga, the sixteenth to Emmer,

14The fifteenth Bilgah, the sixteenth Immer,

15The seventeenth to Hezir, the eighteenth to Aphses,

15The seventeenth Hezir, the eighteenth Happizzez,

16The nineteenth to Pheteia, the twentieth to Hezechiel,

16The nineteenth Pethahiah, the twentieth Jehezkel,

17The one and twentieth to Jachin, the two and twentieth to Gamul,

17The twenty-first Jachin, the twenty-second Gamul,

18The three and twentieth to Dalaiau, the four and twentieth to Maaziau.

18The twenty-third Delaiah, the twenty-fourth Maaziah.

19These are their courses according to their ministries, to come into the house of the Lord, and according to their manner under the hand of Aaron their father: as the Lord the God of Israel had commanded.

19So they were put into their different groups, to take their places in the house of the Lord, in agreement with the rules made by Aaron their father, as the Lord, the God of Israel, had given him orders.

20Now of the rest of the sons of Levi, there was of the sons of Amram, Subael: and of the sons of Subael, Jehedeia.

20And of the rest of the sons of Levi: of the sons of Amram, Shubael; of the sons of Shubael, Jehdeiah.

21Also of the sons of Rohobia the chief Jesias.

21Of Rehabiah; of the sons of Rehabiah, Isshiah the chief.

22And the son of Isaar Salemoth, and the son of Salemoth Jahath:

22Of the Izharites, Shelomoth; of the sons of Shelomoth, Jahath.

23And his son Jeriau the first, Amarias the second, Jahaziel the third, Jecmaan the fourth.

23And the sons of Hebron: Jeriah the chief, Amariah the second, Jahaziel the third, Jekameam the fourth.

24The son of Oziel, Micha: the son of Micha, Samir.

24The sons of Uzziel, Micah; of the sons of Micah, Shamir.

25The brother of Micha, Jesia: and the son of Jesia, Zacharias.

25The brother of Micah, Isshiah; of the sons of Isshiah, Zechariah.

26The sons of Merari: Moholi and Musi: the son of Oziau: Benno.

26The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi; the sons of Jaaziah.

27The son also of Merari Oziau, and Soam, and Zacchur, and Hebri.

27The sons of Merari: of Jaaziah, Shoham and Zaccur and Ibri.

28And the son of Moholi: Eleazar, who had no sons.

28Of Mahli: Eleazar, who had no sons.

29And the son of Cis, Jeramael.

29Of Kish: the sons of Kish, Jerahmeel.

30The sons of Musi: Moholi, Eder, and Jerimoth. These are the sons of Levi according to the houses of their families.

30And the sons of Mushi: Mahli and Eder and Jerimoth. These were the sons of the Levites by their families.

31And they also cast lots over against their brethren the sons of Aaron before David the king, and Sadoc, and Ahimelech, and the princes of the priestly and Levitical families, both the elder and the younger. The lot divided all equally.

31Selection was made of these in the same way as of their brothers the sons of Aaron, David the king being present, with Zadok, and Ahimelech, and the heads of families of the priests and of the Levites; the families of the chief in the same way as those of his younger brother.
