1Then David had discussions with the captains of thousands and the captains of hundreds and with every chief.

1David consulted with the captains of thousands, and of hundreds, and with all the commanders.

1And David consulteth with the heads of the thousands, and of the hundreds, every leader,

2And David said to all the men of Israel who had come together there, If it seems good to you and if it is the purpose of the Lord our God, let us send to all the rest of our brothers, everywhere in the land of Israel, and to the priests and the Levites in their towns and the country round them, and get them to come together here to us;

2And he said to all the assembly of Israel: If it please you; and if the words which I speak come from the Lord our God, let us send to the rest of our brethren into all the countries of Israel, and to the priests, and the Levites, that dwell in the suburbs of the cities, to gather themselves to us,

2and David saith to all the assembly of Israel, `If unto you it be good, and from Jehovah our God it hath broken forth--we send unto our brethren, those left in all the lands of Israel, and with them the priests and the Levites, in the cities of their suburbs, and they are gathered unto us,

3And let us get back for ourselves the ark of our God: for in the days of Saul we did not go to it for directions.

3And let us bring again the ark of our God to us: for we sought it not in the days of Saul.

3and we bring round the ark of our God unto us, for we sought Him not in the days of Saul.'

4And all the people said they would do so, for it seemed right to them.

4And all the multitude answered that it should be so: for the word pleased all the people.

4And all the assembly say to do so, for the thing is right in the eyes of all the people.

5So David sent for all Israel to come together, from Shihor, the river of Egypt, as far as the way into Hamath, to get the ark of God from Kiriath-jearim.

5So David assembled all Israel from Sihor of Egypt, even to the entering into Emath, to bring the ark of God from Cariathiarim.

5And David assembleth all Israel from Shihor of Egypt even unto the entering in of Hamath, to bring in the ark of God from Kirjath-Jearim,

6And David went up, with all Israel, to Baalah, that is, to Kiriath-jearim in Judah, to get up from there the ark of God, over which the holy Name is named, the name of the Lord whose place is between the winged ones.

6And David went up with all the men of Israel to the hill of Cariathiarim which is in Juda, to bring thence the ark of the Lord God sitting upon the cherubims, where his name is called upon.

6and David goeth up, and all Israel, to Baalah, unto Kirjath-Jearim that <FI>is<Fi> to Judah, to bring up thence the ark of God Jehovah, inhabiting the cherubs, where the Name is called on.

7And they put the ark of God on a new cart, and took it out of the house of Abinadab; and Uzza and Ahio were the drivers of the cart.

7And they carried the ark of God upon a new cart out of the house of Abinadab. And Oza and his brother drove the cart.

7And they place the ark of God on a new cart, from the house of Abinadab, and Uzza and Ahio are leading the cart,

8Then David and all Israel made melody before God with all their strength, with songs and corded instruments of music, and with brass instruments and horns.

8And David and all Israel played before God with all their might with hymns, and with harps, and with psalteries, and timbrels, and cymbals, and trumpets,

8and David and all Israel are playing before God, with all strength, and with songs, and with harps, and with psalteries, and with timbrels, and with cymbals, and with trumpets.

9And when they came to the grain-floor of Chidon, Uzza put out his hand to keep the ark in its place, for the oxen were slipping.

9And when they came to the floor of Chidon, Oza put forth his hand, to hold up the ark: for the ox being wanton had made it lean a little on one side.

9And they come in unto the threshing-floor of Chidon, and Uzza putteth forth his hand to seize the ark, for the oxen were released,

10And the wrath of the Lord, burning against Uzza, sent destruction on him because he had put his hand on the ark, and death came to him there before God.

10And the Lord was angry with Oza, and struck him, because he had touched the ark; and he died there before the Lord.

10and the anger of Jehovah is kindled against Uzza, and He smiteth him, because that he hath put forth his hand on the ark, and he dieth there before God.

11And David was angry because of the Lord's outburst of wrath against Uzza, and he gave that place the name Perez-uzza, to this day.

11And David was troubled because the Lord had divided Oza: and he called that place the Breach of Oza to this day.

11And it is displeasing to David, because Jehovah hath made a breach upon Uzza, and one calleth that place `Breach of Uzza' unto this day.

12And so great was David's fear of God that day, that he said, How may I let the ark of God come to me?

12And he feared God at that time, saying: How can I bring in the ark of God to me?

12And David feareth God on that day, saying, `How do I bring in unto me the ark of God?'

13So David did not let the ark come back to him to the town of David, but had it turned away and put into the house of Obed-edom the Gittite.

13And therefore he brought it not home to himself, that is, into the city of David, but carried it aside into the house of Obededom the Gethite.

13And David hath not turned aside the ark unto himself, unto the city of David, and turneth it aside unto the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite.

14And the ark of God was in the house of Obed-edom for three months; and the Lord sent a blessing on the house of Obed-edom and on all he had.

14And the ark of God remained in the house of Obededom three months: and the Lord blessed his house, and all that he had.

14And the ark of God dwelleth with the household of Obed-Edom, in his house, three months, and Jehovah blesseth the house of Obed-Edom, and all that he hath.
