1Now this is the commandment, the statutes, and the ordinances, which Jehovah your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go over to possess it;

1These are the commands, laws, and rules that the LORD your God told me to teach you, so that you can follow them in the land you are crossing the river to take over.

2that thou mightest fear Jehovah thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.

2My goal is for you, your children, and your grandchildren to respect the LORD your God all your lives by keeping all his laws and commands that I am giving you, so that you may live a long time.

3Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as Jehovah, the God of thy fathers, hath promised unto thee, in a land flowing with milk and honey.

3Listen closely, Israel, and be careful to obey. Then things will go well for you and you will become a very large nation in a land flowing with milk and honey, just as the LORD, the God of your ancestors, promised you.

4Hear, O Israel: Jehovah our God is one Jehovah:

4Listen, Israel: The LORD is our God, the LORD alone.

5and thou shalt love Jehovah thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

5Love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.

6And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be upon thy heart;

6Keep these commandments that I am giving you today in your hearts.

7and thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thy house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.

7Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are sitting at home, when you are walking along the road, when you lie down to sleep, and when you get up.

8And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thy hand, and they shall be for frontlets between thine eyes.

8Tie them on your hands as a reminder and wear them on your foreheads.

9And thou shalt write them upon the door-posts of thy house, and upon thy gates.

9Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates.

10And it shall be, when Jehovah thy God shall bring thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee, great and goodly cities, which thou buildest not,

10The LORD your God will bring you into the land he promised to your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. He will give you large, beautiful cities that you did not build.

11and houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and cisterns hewn out, which thou hewedst not, vineyards and olive-trees, which thou plantedst not, and thou shalt eat and be full;

11He will give you houses full of good things that you did not provide, wells that you did not dig, and vineyards and olive trees that you did not plant. When you have eaten and are satisfied,

12then beware lest thou forget Jehovah, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

12be careful that you do not forget the LORD, who brought you out of Egypt, the place where you were slaves.

13Thou shalt fear Jehovah thy God; and him shalt thou serve, and shalt swear by his name.

13Respect the LORD your God, serve him only, and use his name when you take a vow.

14Ye shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the peoples that are round about you;

14Do not worship the gods of the neighboring nations around you.

15for Jehovah thy God in the midst of thee is a jealous God; lest the anger of Jehovah thy God be kindled against thee, and he destroy thee from off the face of the earth.

15If you do, the LORD your God, who is with you, will be angry because he is a jealous God. His anger will burn against you and wipe you off the face of the earth.

16Ye shall not tempt Jehovah your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.

16Do not test the LORD your God as you did at Massah.碎

17Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of Jehovah your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded thee.

17Be sure to obey the commands of the LORD your God and the regulations and laws he has given you.碎

18And thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of Jehovah; that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest go in and possess the good land which Jehovah sware unto thy fathers,

18Do what is right and good in the LORD’s eyes so that things will go well for you. Then you can enter and take over the good land the LORD promised to your ancestors,

19to thrust out all thine enemies from before thee, as Jehovah hath spoken.

19and he will drive out all your enemies ahead of you, just as the LORD said he would.

20When thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies, and the statutes, and the ordinances, which Jehovah our God hath commanded you?

20In the future, when your son asks you, 'What is the meaning of these laws, regulations, and rules that the LORD our God commanded you?'

21then thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh’s bondmen in Egypt: and Jehovah brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand;

21tell him: 'We were slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt, but the LORD brought us out of Egypt with his great power.

22and Jehovah showed signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his house, before our eyes;

22Before our very eyes, the LORD performed great and terrifying miracles and wonders against Egypt, Pharaoh, and his entire household.

23and he brought us out from thence, that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he sware unto our fathers.

23But he brought us out from there to lead us here and give us the land he promised to our ancestors.

24And Jehovah commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear Jehovah our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as at this day.

24The LORD commanded us to obey all these laws and to respect the LORD our God. This is for our own constant good, so that he can keep us alive, as he has done until today.

25And it shall be righteousness unto us, if we observe to do all this commandment before Jehovah our God, as he hath commanded us.

25And if we are careful to obey this entire command before the LORD our God, as he instructed us, that will be our righteousness.'
