1In like manner, ye wives, bein subjection to your own husbands; that, even if any obey not the word, they may without the word be gained by the behavior of their wives;

4Instead, your beauty should come from the inside—the hidden person of the heart. This is the lasting beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very precious to God.
5For after this manner aforetime the holy women also, who hoped in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection to their own husbands:
5This is how holy women of the past, who put their hope in God, made themselves beautiful by following the lead of their own husbands.
6as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose children ye now are, if ye do well, and are not put in fear by any terror.

7Husbands, in the same way, live with your wives with understanding. Treat them with respect as the weaker vessel and as equal partners in God’s gift of life, so that nothing will get in the way of your prayers.
8Finally, be ye all likeminded, compassionate, loving as brethren, tenderhearted, humbleminded:
8Finally, all of you should be united in thought, full of sympathy, loving each other like brothers and sisters, being kindhearted and humble.
9not rendering evil for evil, or reviling for reviling; but contrariwise blessing; for hereunto were ye called, that ye should inherit a blessing.
9Do not pay back evil for evil or insults for insults. Instead, respond with a blessing. God called you to do this so that you may receive a blessing from him.
10For, He that would love life, And see good days, Let him refrain his tongue from evil, And his lips that they speak no guile:
10For the Scriptures say: 'Whoever wants to love life and see good days must keep their tongue from speaking evil and their lips from telling lies.'
11And let him turn away from evil, and do good; Let him seek peace, and pursue it.
11'They must turn away from evil and do good; they must search for peace and work hard to maintain it.'
12For the eyes of the Lord are upon the righteous, And his ears unto their supplication: But the face of the Lord is upon them that do evil.
12'For the Lord watches over the people who do right, and he listens to their prayers. But the Lord is against those who do evil.'
13And who is he that will harm you, if ye be zealous of that which is good?
13Who is going to harm you if you are eager to do what is good?
14But even if ye should suffer for righteousness’ sake, blessed are ye: and fear not their fear, neither be troubled;

15but sanctify in your hearts Christ as Lord: being ready always to give answer to every man that asketh you a reason concerning the hope that is in you, yet with meekness and fear:
15Instead, honor Christ as Lord in your hearts. Always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks for the reason for the hope you have, but do it with gentleness and respect.
16having a good conscience; that, wherein ye are spoken against, they may be put to shame who revile your good manner of life in Christ.
16Keep your conscience clear. Then, when people speak against you, those who mock your good behavior in Christ will be put to shame.
17For it is better, if the will of God should so will, that ye suffer for well-doing than for evil-doing.
17It is better to suffer for doing good, if that is God’s will, than to suffer for doing wrong. his
18Because Christ also suffered for sins once, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God; being put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit;
18For Christ also suffered for sins once and for all. He was the righteous one who died for those who were not righteous, so that he could bring us to God. His body was put to death, but he was brought back to life by the Spirit.
19in which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison,

21which also after a true likeness doth now save you, even baptism, not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the interrogation of a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ;
