1Now concerning spiritualgifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant.
1Now, brothers and sisters, I want to make sure you understand the truth about spiritual gifts.
2Ye know that when ye were Gentiles ye were led away unto those dumb idols, howsoever ye might be led.
2You remember that when you were still pagans, you were swept away and led off to worship idols that could not even speak.
3Wherefore I make known unto you, that no man speaking in the Spirit of God saith, Jesus is anathema; and no man can say, Jesus is Lord, but in the Holy Spirit.
3So I want you to know that no one speaking by the Spirit of God ever says, 'Jesus be cursed,' and no one can say, 'Jesus is Lord,' except by the Holy Spirit.
4Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.
4There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all.
5And there are diversities of ministrations, and the same Lord.
5There are different ways to serve, but we all serve the same Lord.
6And there are diversities of workings, but the same God, who worketh all things in all.
6There are different ways that God works, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us.
7But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit to profit withal.
7The Spirit shows himself in each person in a way that helps everyone.
8For to one is given through the Spirit the word of wisdom; and to another the word of knowledge, according to the same Spirit:
8To one person the Spirit gives the ability to speak with wisdom; to another the same Spirit gives a message of special knowledge.
9to another faith, in the same Spirit; and to another gifts of healings, in the one Spirit;
9The same Spirit gives great faith to one person, and to another he gives the power to heal the sick.
10and to another workings of miracles; and to another prophecy; and to another discernings of spirits: to another divers kinds of tongues; and to another the interpretation of tongues:
10He gives one person the power to perform miracles, another the ability to prophesy, and another the ability to tell the difference between spirits. He gives some the ability to speak in different kinds of languages, and others the ability to explain what is being said.
11but all these worketh the one and the same Spirit, dividing to each one severally even as he will.
11It is the one and only Spirit who does all these things, deciding exactly which gift to give to each person.
12For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of the body, being many, are one body; so also is Christ.
12The human body is one unit, but it has many parts; even though there are many parts, they all make up one single body. It is the same way with Christ.
13For in one Spirit were we all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether bond or free; and were all made to drink of one Spirit.
13Some of us are Jews and some are Gentiles; some are slaves and some are free. But we were all baptized into one body by one Spirit, and we were all given the same Spirit to drink.
14For the body is not one member, but many.
14The body is not made of just one part, but of many parts.
15If the foot shall say, Because I am not the hand, I am not of the body; it is not therefore not of the body.
15If the foot says, 'I am not a hand, so I don’t belong to the body,' that does not stop it from being part of the body.
16And if the ear shall say, Because I am not the eye, I am not of the body; it is not therefore not of the body.
16And if the ear says, 'I am not an eye, so I don’t belong to the body,' it is still part of the body.
17If the whole body were an eye, where were the hearing? If the whole were hearing, where were the smelling?
17If the whole body were an eye, how would you hear? If the whole body were an ear, how would you smell?
18But now hath God set the members each one of them in the body, even as it pleased him.
18But God has placed each part in the body exactly where he wanted it to be.
19And if they were all one member, where were the body?
19If all the parts were the same, it wouldn't be a body at all.
21And the eye cannot say to the hand, I have no need of thee: or again the head to the feet, I have no need of you.
21The eye cannot say to the hand, 'I don’t need you!' And the head cannot say to the feet, 'I don’t need you!'
22Nay, much rather, those members of the body which seem to be more feeble are necessary:
22In fact, the parts of the body that seem to be the weakest are actually the ones that are necessary.
23and those parts of the body, which we think to be less honorable, upon these we bestow more abundant honor; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness;
23And the parts we think are less honorable are the ones we treat with special care. We dress up our private parts with more modesty,
24whereas our comely parts have no need: but God tempered the body together, giving more abundant honor to that part which lacked;
24while our more beautiful parts don't need that special care. God has put the body together in a way that gives more honor to the parts that lacked it,
25that there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.
25so that there would be no division in the body. Instead, all the parts should have the same concern for each other.
26And whether one member suffereth, all the members suffer with it; or one member is honored, all the members rejoice with it.
26If one part suffers, every part suffers with it. If one part is honored, every part shares the joy.
27Now ye are the body of Christ, and severally members thereof.
27All of you together are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a specific part of it.
28And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondly prophets, thirdly teachers, then miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, divers kinds of tongues.
28In the church, God has appointed first apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then those who do miracles, those with gifts of healing, those who help others, those who lead, and those who speak in different languages.
29Are all apostles? are all prophets? are all teachers? are all workers of miracles?
29Is everyone an apostle? Of course not. Is everyone a prophet? No. Is everyone a teacher? No. Does everyone perform miracles? No.
