2Jehovah is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; My God, my rock, in whom I will take refuge; My shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower.
2The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my savior; my God is my rock in whom I find protection. He is my shield, the power that saves me, and my place of safety.
3I will call upon Jehovah, who is worthy to be praised: So shall I be saved from mine enemies.
3I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and he saves me from my enemies.
4The cords of death compassed me, And the floods of ungodliness made me afraid.
4The ropes of death were wrapped around me; floods of destruction overwhelmed me.
5The cords of Sheol were round about me; The snares of death came upon me.
5The ropes of the grave tightened around me; death set a trap in my path.
6In my distress I called upon Jehovah, And cried unto my God: He heard my voice out of his temple, And my cry before him came into his ears.
6In my distress I called to the LORD; I cried out to my God for help. From his temple he heard my voice; my cry reached his ears.
7Then the earth shook and trembled; The foundations also of the mountains quaked And were shaken, because he was wroth.
7Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations of the mountains quaked and were shaken because he was angry.
8There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, And fire out of his mouth devoured: Coals were kindled by it.
8Smoke rose from his nostrils, and a consuming fire came from his mouth; burning coals blazed out of it.
9He bowed the heavens also, and came down; And thick darkness was under his feet.
9He parted the heavens and came down with dark clouds under his feet.
10And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly; Yea, he soared upon the wings of the wind.
10He rode on a winged creature and flew; he soared on the wings of the wind.
11He made darkness his hiding-place, his pavilion round about him, Darkness of waters, thick clouds of the skies.
11He wrapped himself in darkness as a hiding place, surrounded by dark rain clouds and thick skies.
12At the brightness before him his thick clouds passed, Hailstones and coals of fire.
12Out of the brightness of his presence, hailstones and bolts of lightning broke through his clouds.
13Jehovah also thundered in the heavens, And the Most High uttered his voice, Hailstones and coals of fire.
13The LORD thundered from heaven; the Voice of the Most High spoke amidst hail and burning coals.
14And he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; Yea, lightnings manifold, and discomfited them.
14He shot his arrows and scattered my enemies; he flashed his lightning and threw them into confusion.
15Then the channels of waters appeared, And the foundations of the world were laid bare, At thy rebuke, O Jehovah, At the blast of the breath of thy nostrils.
15Then the bottom of the sea appeared and the foundations of the earth were uncovered at your rebuke, LORD, and at the blast of breath from your nostrils.
16He sent from on high, he took me; He drew me out of many waters.
16He reached down from on high and grabbed me; he pulled me out of deep waters.
17He delivered me from my strong enemy, And from them that hated me; for they were too mighty for me.
17He rescued me from my powerful enemy and from those who hated me, for they were too strong for me.
18They came upon me in the day of my calamity; But Jehovah was my stay.
18They attacked me in my time of trouble, but the LORD was my support.
19He brought me forth also into a large place; He delivered me, because he delighted in me.
19He led me out into a wide-open space; he rescued me because he delighted in me.
20Jehovah hath rewarded me according to my righteousness; According to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me.
20The LORD rewarded me for doing right; he repaid me because my hands were clean.
21For I have kept the ways of Jehovah, And have not wickedly departed from my God.
21For I have followed the ways of the LORD and have not turned away from my God to do evil.
22For all his ordinances were before me, And I put not away his statutes from me.
22All his laws were in front of me, and I did not push his rules away.
23I was also perfect with him, And I kept myself from mine iniquity.
23I was blameless before him and kept myself from sinning.
24Therefore hath Jehovah recompensed me according to my righteousness, According to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight.
24So the LORD has rewarded me for my righteousness, because he saw that my hands were clean.
25With the merciful thou wilt show thyself merciful; With the perfect man thou wilt show thyself perfect;
25To the faithful you show yourself faithful; to those with integrity you show integrity.
26With the pure thou wilt show thyself pure; And with the perverse thou wilt show thyself froward.
26To the pure you show yourself pure, but to the crooked you show yourself clever.
27For thou wilt save the afflicted people; But the haughty eyes thou wilt bring down.
27You save those who are humble, but you bring down those who have arrogant eyes.
28For thou wilt light my lamp: Jehovah my God will lighten my darkness.
28You keep my lamp burning; the LORD my God turns my darkness into light.
29For by thee I run upon a troop; And by my God do I leap over a wall.
29With your help I can charge against an army; with my God I can scale a wall.
30As for God, his way is perfect: The word of Jehovah is tried; He is a shield unto all them that take refuge in him.
30God’s way is perfect. The LORD’s promise is proven true; he is a shield to everyone who takes refuge in him.
31For who is God, save Jehovah? And who is a rock, besides our God,
31For who is God except the LORD? And who is a rock except our God?
32The God that girdeth me with strength, And maketh my way perfect?
32He is the God who arms me with strength and makes my path secure.
33He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet: And setteth me upon my high places.
33He makes my feet as steady as the feet of a deer and sets me safely on the mountain heights.
34He teacheth my hands to war; So that mine arms do bend a bow of brass.
34He trains my hands for battle so that my arms can bend a bronze bow.
35Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation; And thy right hand hath holden me up, And thy gentleness hath made me great.
35You have given me your shield of victory; your right hand supports me, and your help has made me great.
36Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, And my feet have not slipped.
36You gave me a wide path for my steps so that my feet did not slip.
37I will pursue mine enemies, and overtake them; Neither will I turn again till they are consumed.
37I chased my enemies and caught them; I did not turn back until they were destroyed.
38I will smite them through, so that they shall not be able to rise: They shall fall under my feet.
38I crushed them so they could not get up; they fell beneath my feet.
39For thou hast girded me with strength unto the battle: Thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me.
39You gave me strength for the battle; you made my attackers bow down before me.
40Thou hast also made mine enemies turn their backs unto me, That I might cut off them that hate me.
40You made my enemies turn and run, and I destroyed those who hated me.
41They cried, but there was none to save; Even unto Jehovah, but he answered them not.
41They cried out for help, but there was no one to save them; they even cried to the LORD, but he did not answer.
42Then did I beat them small as the dust before the wind; I did cast them out as the mire of the streets.
42I ground them as fine as dust blown by the wind; I poured them out like mud in the streets.
43Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people; Thou hast made me the head of the nations: A people whom I have not known shall serve me.
43You rescued me from the conflicts of the people; you made me the leader of nations. People I did not know now serve me.
44As soon as they hear of me they shall obey me; The foreigners shall submit themselves unto me.
44As soon as they hear of me, they obey; foreigners cower before me.
45The foreigners shall fade away, And shall come trembling out of their close places.
45They all lose their courage and come trembling out of their strongholds.
46Jehovah liveth; and blessed be my rock; And exalted be the God of my salvation,
46The LORD lives! Blessed be my Rock! May the God of my salvation be honored! roadblocks
47Even the God that executeth vengeance for me, And subdueth peoples under me.
47He is the God who pays back those who harm me and puts the nations under my control.
48He rescueth me from mine enemies; Yea, thou liftest me up above them that rise up against me; Thou deliverest me from the violent man.
48He rescues me from my enemies. You lift me up above my attackers; you save me from violent men.
