Psalms 19

1The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament showeth his handiwork.

1The heavens tell about the glory of God, and the skies show the work of his hands.

2Day unto day uttereth speech, And night unto night showeth knowledge.

2Day after day they continue to speak, and night after night they reveal knowledge.

3There is no speech nor language; Their voice is not heard.

3They do not use real words or a physical language; no actual voice is heard from them.

4Their line is gone out through all the earth, And their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,

4Yet their message reaches throughout the entire earth, and their words go to the ends of the world. In the heavens, God has set up a tent for the sun.

5Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, And rejoiceth as a strong man to run his course.

5The sun is like a groom coming out of his wedding room; it is like a champion athlete who is happy to start a race.

6His going forth is from the end of the heavens, And his circuit unto the ends of it; And there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.

6It rises at one end of the heavens and follows its path to the other side; nothing can hide from its heat.

7The law of Jehovah is perfect, restoring the soul: The testimony of Jehovah is sure, making wise the simple.

7The law of Jehovah is perfect, giving new strength to the soul. The teaching of Jehovah is reliable, making even simple people wise.

8The precepts of Jehovah are right, rejoicing the heart: The commandment of Jehovah is pure, enlightening the eyes.

8The rules of Jehovah are right, bringing joy to the heart. The commands of Jehovah are pure, giving light to the eyes.

9The fear of Jehovah is clean, enduring for ever: The ordinances of Jehovah are true, and righteous altogether.

9Respect for Jehovah is clean and lasts forever. The laws of Jehovah are true and completely fair.

10More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the droppings of the honeycomb.

10They are more valuable than gold, even a great amount of pure gold. They are sweeter than honey, even honey dripping from the comb.

11Moreover by them is thy servant warned: In keeping them there is great reward.

11Your servant is warned by them, and there is a great reward for obeying them.

12Who can discern his errors? Clear thou me from hidden faults.

12Who can see all of their own mistakes? Forgive me for the hidden faults I don't see.

13Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; Let them not have dominion over me: Then shall I be upright, And I shall be clear from great transgression.

13Also, keep your servant from intentional sins; do not let them control me. Then I will be blameless and innocent of great wrongdoing.

14Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart Be acceptable in thy sight, O Jehovah, my rock, and my redeemer.

14May the words I speak and the thoughts in my heart be pleasing to you, O Jehovah, my rock and my redeemer.
