Psalms 69

1Save me, O God; For the waters are come in unto my soul.

1Save me, O God, because the water has risen up to my neck.

2I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me.

2I am sinking into deep mud where there is no solid ground; I have fallen into deep water, and the floods are washing over me.

3I am weary with my crying; my throat is dried: Mine eyes fail while I wait for my God.

3I am worn out from crying; my throat is dry and sore. My eyes are failing because I have been waiting so long for my God.

4They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of my head: They that would cut me off, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty: That which I took not away I have to restore.

4Those who hate me for no reason outnumber the hairs on my head. My enemies, who want to destroy me with lies, are powerful. I am being forced to give back things I never stole.

5O God, thou knowest my foolishness; And my sins are not hid from thee.

5O God, you know how foolish I have been; my sins are not hidden from you.

6Let not them that wait for thee be put to shame through me, O Lord Jehovah of hosts: Let not those that seek thee be brought to dishonor through me, O God of Israel.

6Lord, the LORD of Heaven’s Armies, do not let those who hope in you be ashamed because of me. O God of Israel, do not let those who seek you be disgraced because of me.

7Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; Shame hath covered my face.

7I have suffered insults for your sake; my face is covered in shame.

8I am become a stranger unto my brethren, And an alien unto my mother’s children.

8I have become a stranger to my own brothers, an outsider to my mother’s children.

9For the zeal of thy house hath eaten me up; And the reproaches of them that reproach thee are fallen upon me.

9Passion for your house has consumed me; the insults of those who insult you have fallen on me.

10When I wept, and chastened my soul with fasting, That was to my reproach.

10When I wept and fasted to discipline myself, people used it to mock me.

11When I made sackcloth my clothing, I became a byword unto them.

11When I wore clothes made of sackcloth to show my sadness, they made fun of me.

12They that sit in the gate talk of me; AndI amthe song of the drunkards.

12The leaders who sit at the city gate talk about me, and drunkards make up songs about me.

13But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O Jehovah, in an acceptable time: O God, in the abundance of thy lovingkindness, Answer me in the truth of thy salvation.

13But I keep praying to you, LORD, at the right time. O God, out of your great love and your certain power to save, answer me.

14Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: Let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters.

14Pull me out of the mud; do not let me sink. Save me from those who hate me and from the deep waters.

15Let not the waterflood overwhelm me, Neither let the deep swallow me up; And let not the pit shut its mouth upon me.

15Don’t let the flood wash me away, don’t let the deep water swallow me, and don’t let the grave close its mouth over me.

16Answer me, O Jehovah; for thy lovingkindness is good: According to the multitude of thy tender mercies turn thou unto me.

16Answer me, LORD, because your faithful love is good. Look at me because you have great mercy.

17And hide not thy face from thy servant; For I am in distress; answer me speedily.

17Do not hide your face from your servant. I am in deep trouble; answer me quickly!

18Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it: Ransom me because of mine enemies.

18Come near to me and rescue me; save me because of my enemies.

19Thou knowest my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonor: Mine adversaries are all before thee.

19You know all about the insults, shame, and disgrace I suffer. You see every one of my enemies.

20Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: And I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; And for comforters, but I found none.

20Insults have broken my heart and left me helpless. I looked for someone to show me sympathy, but there was no one; I looked for someone to comfort me, but I found nobody.

21They gave me also gall for my food; And in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.

21Instead, they gave me poison for food and offered me vinegar for my thirst.

22Let their table before them become a snare; And when they are in peace, let it become a trap.

22Let the feasts they enjoy become a snare to them; let their security become a trap.

23Let their eyes be darkened, so that they cannot see; And make their loins continually to shake.

24Pour out thine indignation upon them, And let the fierceness of thine anger overtake them.

24Pour out your fury on them; let your burning anger catch up to them.

25Let their habitation be desolate; Let none dwell in their tents.

25Let their camps be deserted; let no one be left alive in their tents.

26For they persecute him whom thou hast smitten; And they tell of the sorrow of those whom thou hast wounded.

26For they persecute the one you have already punished; they talk about the pain of those you have wounded.

27Add iniquity unto their iniquity; And let them not come into thy righteousness.

27Charge them with one sin after another; do not let them share in your righteousness.

28Let them be blotted out of the book of life, And not be written with the righteous.

28Erase their names from the book of life; do not let them be listed among the godly.

29But I am poor and sorrowful: Let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high.

29But I am in pain and suffering. O God, let your salvation protect me and lift me up.

30I will praise the name of God with a song, And will magnify him with thanksgiving.

30I will praise God’s name with a song; I will honor him with my thanks.

31And it will please Jehovah better than an ox, Ora bullock that hath horns and hoofs.

31This will please the LORD more than an offering of an ox, or a bull with its horns and hooves.

32The meek have seen it, and are glad: Ye that seek after God, let your heart live.

32The humble will see this and be glad; you who seek God, be encouraged!

33For Jehovah heareth the needy, And despiseth not his prisoners.

33For the LORD listens to the needy and does not turn his back on his people who are in prison.

34Let heaven and earth praise him, The seas, and everything that moveth therein.

34Let heaven and earth praise him, along with the seas and everything that moves in them.

35For God will save Zion, and build the cities of Judah; And they shall abide there, and have it in possession.

35For God will save Jerusalem and rebuild the cities of Judah. His people will live there and own the land.

36The seed also of his servants shall inherit it; And they that love his name shall dwell therein.

36The children of his servants will inherit it, and those who love his name will live there in safety.
