2Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When a man shall accomplish a vow, the persons shall be for Jehovah by thy estimation.
2“Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘If someone makes a special vow to give a person to the LORD, you must set a specific value for that person.
3And thy estimation shall be of the male from twenty years old even unto sixty years old, even thy estimation shall be fifty shekels of silver, after the shekel of the sanctuary.
3For a man between the ages of twenty and sixty, the value is fifty silver shekels, based on the standard weight used in the sanctuary.
4And if it be a female, then thy estimation shall be thirty shekels.
4If it is a woman, the value is thirty shekels.
5And if it be from five years old even unto twenty years old, then thy estimation shall be of the male twenty shekels, and for the female ten shekels.
5For a person between five and twenty years old, set the value at twenty shekels for a male and ten shekels for a female.
6And if it be from a month old even unto five years old, then thy estimation shall be of the male five shekels of silver, and for the female thy estimation shall be three shekels of silver.
6For a child between one month and five years old, set the value at five silver shekels for a boy and three silver shekels for a girl.
7And if it be from sixty years old and upward; if it be a male, then thy estimation shall be fifteen shekels, and for the female ten shekels.
7For anyone sixty years old or older, set the value at fifteen shekels for a man and ten shekels for a woman.
8But if he be poorer than thy estimation, then he shall be set before the priest, and the priest shall value him; according to the ability of him that vowed shall the priest value him.
8If someone making the vow is too poor to pay the set amount, they must bring the person to the priest. The priest will then decide on a price based on what the person who made the vow can afford.
9And if it be a beast, whereof men offer an oblation unto Jehovah, all that any man giveth of such unto Jehovah shall be holy.
9If the vow involves an animal that can be offered as a sacrifice to the LORD, any such animal given to the LORD becomes holy.
10He shall not alter it, nor change it, a good for a bad, or a bad for a good: and if he shall at all change beast for beast, then both it and that for which it is changed shall be holy.
10The person must not substitute it or exchange it—neither a good animal for a bad one, nor a bad one for a good one. If they do exchange one animal for another, then both the original animal and its substitute will be holy.
11And if it be any unclean beast, of which they do not offer an oblation unto Jehovah, then he shall set the beast before the priest;
11If the animal is ‘unclean’—one that cannot be offered as a sacrifice to the LORD—the animal must be presented to the priest.
12and the priest shall value it, whether it be good or bad: as thou the priest valuest it, so shall it be.
12The priest will judge its value, whether it is high or low. Whatever value the priest sets, that is what it will be.
13But if he will indeed redeem it, then he shall add the fifth part thereof unto thy estimation.
13If the owner wants to buy the animal back, they must pay the set value plus an additional twenty percent.
14And when a man shall sanctify his house to be holy unto Jehovah, then the priest shall estimate it, whether it be good or bad: as the priest shall estimate it, so shall it stand.
14If someone dedicates their house as holy to the LORD, the priest will estimate its value, whether it is good or bad. Whatever price the priest sets will be the official value.
15And if he that sanctified it will redeem his house, then he shall add the fifth part of the money of thy estimation unto it, and it shall be his.
15If the person who dedicated the house wants to buy it back, they must pay the set value plus twenty percent, and the house will be theirs again.
16And if a man shall sanctify unto Jehovah part of the field of his possession, then thy estimation shall be according to the sowing thereof: the sowing of a homer of barley shall be valued at fifty shekels of silver.
16If someone dedicates part of their family land to the LORD, its value will be based on the amount of seed needed to plant it. A field requiring five bushels of barley seed will be valued at fifty silver shekels.
17If he sanctify his field from the year of jubilee, according to thy estimation it shall stand.
17If they dedicate the field during the Year of Jubilee, its full value will stand.
18But if he sanctify his field after the jubilee, then the priest shall reckon unto him the money according to the years that remain unto the year of jubilee; and an abatement shall be made from thy estimation.
18But if they dedicate it after the Jubilee, the priest will calculate its value based on the number of years left until the next Year of Jubilee, and the price will be reduced.
19And if he that sanctified the field will indeed redeem it, then he shall add the fifth part of the money of thy estimation unto it, and it shall be assured to him.
19If the person who dedicated the field wants to buy it back, they must pay the set value plus twenty percent, and the field will belong to them again.
20And if he will not redeem the field, or if he have sold the field to another man, it shall not be redeemed any more:
20However, if they do not buy it back, or if they have sold the field to someone else, it can never be bought back again.
21but the field, when it goeth out in the jubilee, shall be holy unto Jehovah, as a field devoted; the possession thereof shall be the priest’s.
21When the field is released in the Year of Jubilee, it will be holy to the LORD, like a field permanently set apart for him; it will become the property of the priests.
22And if he sanctify unto Jehovah a field which he hath bought, which is not of the field of his possession;
22If someone dedicates to the LORD a field they have bought, which is not part of their family’s ancestral land,
23then the priest shall reckon unto him the worth of thy estimation unto the year of jubilee: and he shall give thine estimation in that day, as a holy thing unto Jehovah.
23the priest will calculate its value up to the Year of Jubilee. The person must pay that amount on that day as something holy to the LORD.
24In the year of jubilee the field shall return unto him of whom it was bought, even to him to whom the possession of the land belongeth.
24In the Year of Jubilee, the field will go back to the original owner who sold it—the person to whom the land belongs by family inheritance.
25And all thy estimations shall be according to the shekel of the sanctuary: twenty gerahs shall be the shekel.
25Every value must be set according to the standard sanctuary shekel, which is twenty gerahs to the shekel.
26Only the firstling among beasts, which is made a firstling to Jehovah, no man shall sanctify it; whether it be ox or sheep, it is Jehovah’s.
26No one may dedicate the firstborn of an animal, which already belongs to the LORD. Whether it is a calf or a lamb, it is already the LORD’s.
27And if it be of an unclean beast, then he shall ransom it according to thine estimation, and shall add unto it the fifth part thereof: or if it be not redeemed, then it shall be sold according to thy estimation.
27If the animal is unclean, the owner may buy it back at the set value plus twenty percent. If it is not bought back, it must be sold at its set value.
28Notwithstanding, no devoted thing, that a man shall devote unto Jehovah of all that he hath, whether of man or beast, or of the field of his possession, shall be sold or redeemed: every devoted thing is most holy unto Jehovah.
28However, nothing that a person specially devotes to the LORD from their property—whether a human, an animal, or family land—can be sold or bought back. Everything devoted in this way is most holy to the LORD.
29No one devoted, that shall be devoted from among men, shall be ransomed; he shall surely be put to death.
29No person who has been set apart for destruction can be bought back; they must surely be put to death.
30And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is Jehovah’s: it is holy unto Jehovah.
30A tenth of all the produce from the land, whether grain from the soil or fruit from the trees, belongs to the LORD; it is holy to the LORD.
31And if a man will redeem aught of his tithe, he shall add unto it the fifth part thereof.
31If someone wants to buy back any of their tenth, they must pay the value plus twenty percent.
32And all the tithe of the herd or the flock, whatsoever passeth under the rod, the tenth shall be holy unto Jehovah.
32Every tenth animal from the herds and flocks—every tenth one that passes under the shepherd’s staff—will be holy to the LORD.
33He shall not search whether it be good or bad, neither shall he change it: and if he change it at all, then both it and that for which it is changed shall be holy; it shall not be redeemed.
33The owner must not pick out the good from the bad or make any substitutions. If they do exchange one for another, both the original and the substitute become holy and cannot be bought back.’”
