1I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beseech you to walk worthily of the calling wherewith ye were called,
1Therefore, as a prisoner for the Lord, I urge you to live in a way that is worthy of the calling you have received.
2with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;

11And he gave some to be apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;

12for the perfecting of the saints, unto the work of ministering, unto the building up of the body of Christ:

13till we all attain unto the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a fullgrown man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
13This continues until we all reach unity in our faith and in our knowledge of the Son of God, becoming mature and reaching the full measure of the perfection of Christ.
14that we may be no longer children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, in craftiness, after the wiles of error;
14Then we will no longer be like children, tossed back and forth by waves and blown here and there by every wind of new teaching, influenced by the trickery of people who use clever lies to lead others astray.
15but speaking truth in love, may grow up in all things into him, who is the head, even Christ;
15Instead, by speaking the truth in love, we will grow in every way to become more like Christ, who is the head.
16from whom all the body fitly framed and knit together through that which every joint supplieth, according to the working in due measure of each several part, maketh the increase of the body unto the building up of itself in love.
16Under his direction, the whole body is fitted together perfectly. As each part does its own special work, it helps the other parts grow, so that the whole body is healthy and growing and full of love.
17This I say therefore, and testify in the Lord, that ye no longer walk as the Gentiles also walk, in the vanity of their mind,
17So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord: you must no longer live as the Gentiles do, in the worthlessness of their thinking.
18being darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardening of their heart;
18Their minds are full of darkness; they are separated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them due to the stubbornness of their hearts.
19who being past feeling gave themselves up to lasciviousness, to work all uncleanness with greediness.
19Having lost all sense of shame, they have given themselves over to Lu-sl-v-us-ness, practicing every kind of impurity with a constant desire for more.
20But ye did not so learn Christ;
20But that is not the way of life you learned when you learned about Christ.
21if so be that ye heard him, and were taught in him, even as truth is in Jesus:
21Since you have heard about him and were taught the truth that is in Jesus:
22that ye put away, as concerning your former manner of life, the old man, that waxeth corrupt after the lusts of deceit;
22You were taught to strip off your old nature, which belongs to your former way of life and is being destroyed by its deceitful desires.
23and that ye be renewed in the spirit of your mind,
23Instead, let your hearts and minds be made completely new.
24and put on the new man, that after God hath been created in righteousness and holiness of truth.
24Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.
25Wherefore, putting away falsehood, speak ye truth each one with his neighbor: for we are members one of another.
25So stop telling lies. Let everyone speak the truth to their neighbor, because we are all parts of the same body.
26Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:
26If you are angry, do not sin; do not let the sun go down while you are still angry.
28Let him that stole steal no more: but rather let him labor, working with his hands the thing that is good, that he may have whereof to give to him that hath need.
28Anyone who has been stealing must stop. Instead, they must work hard with their own hands doing something good, so they have something to share with those in need.
29Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for edifying as the need may be, that it may give grace to them that hear.
29Do not let any harmful talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, so that it may benefit those who listen.
30And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, in whom ye were sealed unto the day of redemption.
30And do not make God’s Holy Spirit sad. The Spirit is the seal God placed on you for the day of final rescue.
